Cartel is sired by Holland Ease by First Down Dash. Holland Ease was out of Easy Henryetta by Easy Jet. The dam of Corona Cartel is Corona Chick by Chicks Beduino and she was out of Sizzling Lil by Sizzle Te.
The dam of PYC Paint Your Wagon is Dashin Follies by Strawfly Special, a son of Special Effort. This gives Painted Turnpike a breeding pattern of 4 X 4 to Special Effort. The dam of Strawfly Special is Fly In The Pie by Easy Jet.
The dam of Dashin Follies is the AQHA Racing World Champion Dashing Folly
by First Down Dash. This gives Painted Turnpike a breeding pattern of 4 X 4 X 4 to First Down Dash.
The dam of Dashing Folly is Hempes Folly by Hempen. The First Down Dash/ Hempen cross is found in such noted individuals as World Champion Leaving Memories, stakes winner Make It Anywhere, stakes winner Two For The Dough, and the stakes placed Hezaspicymeatsaballa. Two For The Dough and Hezaspicymeatsaballa are full brothers to Dashing Folly.
The cross of First Down Dash and Hempen also comes through the pedigree of Royal Quick Flash. Royal Quick Flash is sired by Royal Quick Dash by First Down Dash and out of Venice Song by Hempen. Venice Song is out of Venice by Easy Jet. Dashing Folly is sired by First Down Dash and out of Hempes Folly by Hempen. The dam of Hempes Folly is Jets Runaway by Easy Jet. This is line breeding to the First Down Dash/Hempen/Easy Jet nick. It is also an example of returning the blood of the sire’s dam in the foal being produced, thus increasing the influence of the sire’s dam on the pedigree of the foal produced. An added note: This gives Painted Turnpike a breeding pattern of 5 X 6 X 6 X 5 X 6 X 5 to Easy Jet.
The PYC Paint Your Wagon cross on Pevehouse mares has proven to be a good move. It has produced three stakes finalists in Gitter Dun Turnpike, a finalist in three stake races; Wagon On Turnpike, a finalist in four stakes including a second in the 2015 Speedhorse Graham Derby-G1,
and of course Painted Turnpike, the 2015 Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Triple Crown winner.
The story of Painted Turnpike is one of how one breeder built a family of racehorses with a mare that he wanted to show at halter. When the halter endeavor didn’t work out, he went into the racehorse business and became the breeder of the first Speedhorse Paint and Appaloosa Triple Crown winner. Isn’t life interesting with how things work out in the end?
is Harems Choice by *Beduino and out of Flicka Your Bic by Tiny Charger. The dam of Flicka Your Bic is Hy Flicka by Hysition and out of Flicka.
The dam of Royal Quick Flash is Venice Song, a stakes placed daughter of Hempen and the mare Venice by Easy Jet. The dam
of Venice is Venice Ann by Venetian Jester. Venice Ann is out of Mayflower Ann by Tonto Bars Hank and the great mare Lena’s Bar by Three Bars. Lena’s Bar is the dam of Easy Jet. This gives Venice a breeding pattern of 2 X 3 to Lena’s Bar.
Venice Song is the dam of eight AQHA starters with six runners that earned five ROM. She is the dam of one stakes winner and one stakes placed runner in the AQHA. Her leading AQHA money winner is Heza Hot Hit ($197,520). Her only APHA registered foal is Royal Quick Flash.
The sire of Painted Turnpike is PYC Paint Your Wagon, a 3-time Grade 1 stakes winner of the Texas Classic Futurity-G1, Heritage Place Derby-G1, and Texas Classic Derby-G1. He also annexed the Lazy E Futurity-RG2, and won $889,581 while winning seven of his 16 starts with four seconds and two thirds.
PYC Paint Your Wagon was not Pevehouse’s first choice as a mate for High Class Turnpike. “My brother, Carl, had
a lot to do with that decision. Carl and I were visiting one day, and he asked me if
I had gone to see PYC Paint Your Wagon and I had. I was thinking about breeding to Ivory James, a full brother to PYC Paint Your Wagon. I liked the conformation
of Ivory James. But, he thought I should breed to PYC Your Wagon and ignore the conformation. So, I bred to him for three years. So, Carl was a big influence on me in breeding to PYC Paint Your Wagon.”
The success of PYC Paint Your Wagon has shown that the choice to breed to him was a good move for Pevehouse. PYC Paint Your Wagon hit the breeding barn in a big way as the AQHA 2010 Leading Freshman Sire. He has followed that up with top
five finishes as the leading sire of money earners from 2011 to 2014, and as of this writing is the leading sire for 2015. His foals have lifetime earnings of over $21.5 million. PYC Paint Your Wagon is the sire of Paint foals that have won $551,029 from 21 starters. Some of his top Paint runners include WL Mr Worldwide ($49,048) and TH San Man ($40,893).
The mating of PYC Paint Your Wagon and High Class Turnpike has an interesting pedigree pattern. PYC Paint Your Wagon is sired by Corona Cartel, the all-time leading living sire of money winners. Corona
Royal Quick Flash, the all-time leading sire of Paint money earners, is the sire of High Class Turnpike, the dam of Painted Turnpike.
The First Down Dash/Hempen TB cross comes through on the top side of Painted Turnpike’s pedigree as well as on the bottom side through his dam’s sire Royal Quick Flash
        First Down Dash
  Hempen TB
Isn’t life interesting with how things work out in the end?
