was also second in the West Texas Futurity. Denim N Diamonds is the sole stakes win- ner that Bachelor’s Dream has produced but she also is the dam of stakes placed run- ners Cause I Dream by Pass ‘Em Up and Jet Traveler by Easy Jet.
Bachelor’s Dream is sired by Rebel Cause, who has a well-supported reputation as a broodmare sire. He has sired the dams of leading sires Ichibon, Easy Treasure, Carlotta 2 and Casady Casanova. Bachelor’s Dream is out of the stakes winning Leo mare Leo’s Mambo, the dam of five ROM winners from six start- ers. Leo’s Mambo won the New Mexico Bred Futurity to gain her black type.
In addition to Leo’s Mambo, Otro Mambo is the dam of the topflight race mare Go Vicki Meyers, a daughter of Mr Meyers. Go Vicki Meyers won 10 stakes and 22 of her 38 starts in a career that showed class and durability. A Thoroughbred daughter of Three Bars, Otro Mambo is also the dam of the stakes-placed performers Go Otro and Go Man’s Mambo. Rebel’s Way and Moore’s Mambo are both stakes producing daughters of Otro Mambo.
We may have been a little tardy in dealing with this subject, but the way Denim N Diamonds is running and Timeto Thinkrich is siring this sub- jectwillprobablybetimelyforquiteawhile.
Denim N Diamonds has stakes winners for her first and second dams while her third dam produced two stakes winners and two daugh- tersthatarestakesproducers.

   Denim N Diamonds
by Larry Thornton
Scott Wells titled his chapter on Denim N Diamonds in the book The Nicodemus Era, “A Gem.” The race record she put in the record books certainly indicates that she was “A Gem,” so when the ‘gem’ retired to the broodmare band she was expected to produce some new ‘gems.’ But like many great race mares, it first appeared that it was going to be tough for Denim N Diamonds to live up to expectations as a broodmare. The first three foals she produced were all non-winners in their combined 10
starts and none of them broke a 90-speed index, although two of them earned a racing ROM. The only one of the three to hit the board was
The Adamas, who finished with a second and a third in two starts.
It was a trip to the court of The Signature that changed the fortunes of Denim N Diamonds as
a producer. The foal produced was Star Of Sierra Leone. This mare was a winner of only two starts, but one of those was the 1991 Rainbow Silver Cup G1. She would finish second in the 1990 All American Derby G1, third in the 1991World’s Championship Classic G1 and as a finalist in five more races with four of them being grade ones.
The next three foals that followed helped
their dam prove herself as a solid producer. The Regency Diamond (by The Signature) was a stakes
finalist in the Kansas Derby G1 and the Rainbow Derby G1. The Desert Jewel (by Beduino TB) was a finalist in the West Texas Derby G2, and The Niarchos (by Streakin Six) was stakes placed in
the QH of Texas Breeders’ Sale Derby and a stakes finalist in three more graded stakes.
Denim N Diamonds produced only one more race winning ROM runner and that was The Jubilee Diamond (by Runaway Winner). The next three Denim N Diamond foals failed to win a race in their nine starts. On the surface, this appears to be a moderate produce record. But just because a great mare doesn’t live up to her accolades on the racetrack doesn’t mean she
