Allred named Remembering Spence for the late Spencer Childers, a Hall of Fame breeder and owner. The gelding traces back to one of Childers’ foundation broodmares, Champion Black Sable, the third dam. Childers bred unraced Sables Bono, the dam of Remembering Spence. She has produced five starters, all winners. The second dam, Sables Secret, is a multiple Grade 1 winner.
Eduardo Nicasio piloted Perrys Affair (Mr Jess Perry-First Down Affair) for Pulido and owner Robert Williams. The gelding’s best start before Pulido began training him was a second, and under Pulido’s tutelage he won his trial and ran second in the Derby.
Creole Williams (Jess Louisiana Blue- Picture Perfect Tee) races for the Double Bar S Ranch LLC. Cesar DeAlba rode the geld- ing to third in the Derby and also won the Corona Chick Handicap on him last year.
Rounding out the field were Gold Flames On Fire (Walk Thru Fire-Gold Cult), Fires Blazin (Walk Thru Fire-Thatsa Blazin Chick), Blistering Speed (Tres Seis-Meddlin Mischief), High School Secrets (No Secrets Here-Summertime High), Stel My Corona (Stel Corona-Ocean Express), and Buy Buy (Stel Corona-Aquisitive). Jabuti Eagle SA was scratched.
