“. . . George and Dinero are the most athletic horses I have ever ridden.”
Stingray first set the barrel racing world on fire in 2009.
Sherry Cervi and PC Frenchmans Hayday finished third in the 2005 National Finals Rodeo standings, and that year the horse was also voted the PRCA/ AQHA third place Heeling Horse of the Year.
MP A Man With Roses, aka George, and Sherry Cervi set an arena record at Cheyenne Frontier Days.
Sherry Cervi and MP Meter My Hay, aka Stingray, set a new arena record at the 2010 National Finals Rodeo and earned over $1.7 million. Stingray is the top earner sired by PC Frenchmans Hayday.
Mel learned that when you have a good horse, it is a good idea to try and duplicate that success with a horse from the same bloodlines.
Casey’s Ladylove was the dam of Caseys Charm. She is sired by Casey’s Poco by Poco Dun. Poco Dun was a son of cutting horse Poco Bueno. Miss Casey was the dam of Casey’s Poco and her
sire was Tadpole by Red Dog. Her dam was Nedra by Red Dog. Red Dog was
a sire for Jack Casement of Colorado. The dam of Casey’s Ladylove was Lady Diane by Mc Rusty by Joe Tom Mc. Lady Diane was out of Chigger Barnes by Joe Tom Mc. Joe Tom Mc was sired by Joe Hancock.
Dinero certainly proved the critics wrong about his purchase price. He earned over $400,000 in the arena, not only as a barrel racer but also as a header and heeler. He has been a Wrangler NFR qualifier and in 2005 Sherry finished third in the Wrangler NFR Barrel Racing standings with the help of Dinero. Cory Petska and Dinero won such events as the Mike Cervi Memorial Roping and the team roping at the famous Salinas Rodeo. He was voted the 2005 PRCA/AQHA third place Heeling Horse of the Year with Cory in the saddle.
In 2005, Dinero put his athletic ability on display at the Snake River Stampede in Nampa, Idaho. He was shown in barrels
by Sherry, heeling by Walt Woodard, and heeling by Cory Petska. They combined to win $11,000 at this one rodeo on this great performance stallion.
Sherry tells us what it is like to ride Dinero. “He is so gritty,” she said. “I always said, if he was three legged he would still
give you 110%. He was a tough horse and you have to have that in a rodeo horse. If he had been a gelding, he would have been even better as a performance horse. He was a lot of fun to run barrels on.”
She added this about the athletic ability of Dinero while talking about his son MP A Man With Roses, or George as he is known around the barn. “Athletic-wise, George is by far one of the most athletic horses I have ever ridden,” she said. “In fact, George and Dinero are the most athletic horses I have ever ridden.”
George won over $60,000 in barrel racing winning events like the Greg Olson Barrel Racing Futurity. He won the first round at Cheyenne and set an arena record at the PacWest Barrel Race, all in 2011. His full sister, MP Daysys N Roses, aka Daisy, has earned over $100,000 in team roping. The dam of George and Daisy is Rose Patch by Lay A Patch. The dam of Rose Patch is Queen Peppy Bar by Double Hi Bar and she is out of Holey Queen by Holey Sox. Sadly, George had to be retired due to an injury before reaching his full potential as a barrel racer.
MP Quick Money, another son of PC Frenchmans Hayday, has won in excess of $75,000 in barrel racing as an NFR qualifier and aged event participant. This gelding has an AQHA Superior in barrel racing with 89 points. He was the Fort Worth Stock Show Senior Barrel Racing Champion. The dam of MP Quick Money is MP Quickern A Wink, who is out of One Wink by Lay A Patch. One Wink is also the dam of MP One Wink A Day, a Cheyenne Frontier Days Team Roping Champion sired by Dinero.
MP Maydays Moonpatch, by PC Frenchmans Hayday, was the 2014 Greg Olson Memorial Futurity 1D Champion. He has Equi-Stat earnings of $17,467. His dam is Luna Patch by Lay A Patch and her dam is Drifting Bonita by Lone Drifter. The dam of Drifting Bonita is Drifting Bonnett by Lone Drifter. This makes Drifting Bonita double bred to Lone Drifter. Lone Drifter is a son of Driftwood Ike by Driftwood. Lone Drifter
is a foundation sire for Mel’s Driftwood breeding program.
Sherry Cervi won two WPRA World Championships on Hawk in 1995 and 1999. She has added two more World Championships in 2010 and 2013 riding MP Meter My Hay, aka Stingray. Stingray, by PC Frenchmans Hayday, is now a living legend in rodeo today, having earned over $1.7 million.
Stingray first set the barrel-racing world on fire in 2009 when they set the arena record in Las Vegas at the Wrangler NFR running the pattern in :13.49. They
