The cover of our 2017 Speedhorse Barrel Stallion Register honors the great 1995 palomino stallion PC Frenchmans Hayday (Sun Frost-Caseys Charm, Tiny Circus). PC Frenchmans Hayday is known in the barrel world by his nickname, “Dinero,” which is the Spanish word for money, and the colt has certainly lived up to that name – both in the arena and as a sire of barrel race and rodeo money earners.
PC Frenchmans Hayday began competing in barrels with Sherry Cervi and in roping events ridden by Walt Woodard and Cory Petaska. He earned money throughout his early career, but one of his bigger breaks came at the age of 10 under Cervi. That’s when PC Frenchmans Hayday took third in the National Finals Rodeo Barrel Racing Average and captured third in the Women’s National Finals Rodeo Barrel Racing Average. Two years later in 2007, he won the 1D at the National Barrel Horse Association Vegas Super Show, and in 2008 he ran second at the World Barrel Racing Finals from over 1,900 entries. Then in 2011 at the age of 16, PC Frenchmans Hayday and Cervi took second in the National Barrel Horse Association New Year’s 1D Barrel Race. PC Frenchmans Hayday also had the honor of taking third in the AQHA/PRCA Horse of the Year in Team Roping – Heeling.
In all, PC Frenchmans Hayday earned over $400,000 for his owner Mel O. Potter, and daughter Sherry Cervi, of Ocean Spray Cranberries Inc. fame.
As a sire, PC Frenchmans Hayday has over $2 million in progeny earnings, including some of Cervi’s top National Finals Rodeo runners. His top earner
is 4-Time World Champion, 2011 AQHA/PRCA/ WPRA Horse of the Year – Barrel Racing, million- dollar money earner MP Meter My Hay, aka Stingray.
But, back to his “humble” beginnings. PC Frenchmans Hayday was bred by Frances E. Loiseau in South Dakota, of Frenchmans Quarter Horses.
The legendary Loiseau began breeding Quarter Horses in the early 1960’s, and she built an incredible broodmare band – all daughters of her mare Casey’s Ladylove, who was foaled in 1961. Casey’s Ladylove traces back on her top side to the great stallion King, who was sired by Zantanon, and on her bottom side to the great stallion Joe Hancock. Casey’s Ladylove is the dam of Caseys Charm, the dam of PC Frenchmans Hayday. Caseys Charm is also the dam of WPRA World Champion, 4-time PRCA Barrel Horse of
the Year French Flash Hawk, aka Bozo, who is a full brother to PC Frenchmans Hayday. Casey’s Ladylove is the grandam of #2 leading barrel sire Frenchmans Guy. This is a true blue hen female family.
PC Frenchmans Hayday’s sire line is as royal as his dam side. He is by the renowned stallion Sun Frost, who is the sire of over $2 million in earners, including the above mentioned French Flash Hawk and Frenchmans Guy. Sun Frost traces back on his top side to the great stallion Doc Bar by Lightning Bar by Three Bars TB, and on his bottom side to the great stallions Driftwood Ike by Driftwood, and Depth Charge.
Loiseau sold PC Frenchmans Hayday as a weanling to Cowan Brothers LLC, and Potter purchased him as a two year old, and he has lived there ever since. The stallion stands at Potter Ranch in Marana, Arizona.
The elite PC Frenchmans Hayday has too many accolades to list here - both as a competitor and as a sire. He has proven himself in the arena and in the breeding shed. He has created his own dynasty. And, one thing
is certain. He rightly deserves the place he has carved in Quarter Horse history and on the cover of the Speedhorse Barrel Stallion Register.
