Disaste
er Relief
Record flooding devastated the Midwest
in March. Reports came in of horses and other livestock being stranded on inaccessible “islands” due to the encroaching floodwaters, unable to reach food or shelter. Other horses were forced to stand in floodwaters for extended periods of time - even days - putting them at risk of skin disease and other health threats from bacteria that had contaminated the water. While some were able to be rescued and evacuated, others were forced to shelter in place, with their owners providing food via boat.
Severe weather and other types of disasters can happen at any time. Are you ready? Here at Speedhorse, we want to make sure that all horse owners have done their due diligence to care for their beloved animals in the event that disaster strikes. We hope you never experience severe weather or another incident that will threaten your farm or your horses, but it is so important to be ready for the unforeseen. Follow this guide to make sure you are prepared, which also includes information on organizations that are there to provide help.
