“We accept their capabilities and realize that there is a ‘Plan B’ for a good- minded, correct, athletic horse.”

NAME:
Kenneth & Donna Weeks
HOME BASE:
Citronelle, Alabama
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:
11
PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATIONS AND ACHIEVEMENTS:
“We have qualified two race horses for the World Show in the performance Halter. Pagan Stone was the gelding’s name.”
FAVORITE HOBBY:
“Usually during the summer we have little down time and like to spend time at the river on the boat or wave runners. We also live 45 minutes from the Gulf
of Mexico, so we also love the beach. Our daughter, Kenzie, is nine and loves to ride her horses. She has a menagerie consisting of cutters, reiners and show horses. We also have 100 head of cross- bred cattle that keep us busy.”
For nearly her entire life, Donna Weeks has been riding and working with horses. When she met a man who was just as single-minded about the indus-
try, it was the perfect match.
And it has been. Donna and her husband,
Kenneth, are based in Alabama and regularly run their trainees on the lucrative Quarter Horse circuit in Louisiana.
“We each grew up in the horse industry,”
Donna said. “I grew up showing horses in AQHA competition from the age of nine. I always had halter horses to show and really loved the performance events as well.
“My father and mother trained halter horses, so from a young age I was used to the consistency and work involved,” she added. “I have always appreciated a pretty, correct horse that could perform. Kenneth grew up going to play days
on the weekends, winning saddles and even a trailer, so at an early age he had experience with barrel horses.”
Kenneth took the leap to start training full-time 11 years ago. Since then, he has produced more than $4 million in total earnings. Together they run Wide Open Race Horses, and are active breeding Quarter Horses and barrel racers.
