LA CUCHARA

La Cuchara drew the outside post and used it to her advantage to stay away from the bump and grind on the inside of the track in the AQRA Turf Paradise
Spring Futurity on April 28. The 300-yard stakes car- ried a purse worth $88,391. La Cuchara broke well from the 9-post under jockey Jacob Enriquez. They quickly grabbed the lead and crossed the line a length in front in :15.608 for a 94 speed index. The sorrel filly also earned the $44,195 winner’s share, taking her bank to $46,278. Her race record stands unbeaten at 2 wins from 2 outs, her first win coming in the April 6 trials to this event. La Cuchara races for owners Julie A. Schoenhofer & Maricela Vasquez. Eric Valenzuela is the trainer. Bred in Oklahoma by Paris Wixon, La Cuchara is out of winner Ms Dashin Bigtime. The mare has produced 26 foals, with stakes winner Bigtime Favorite her top earner.
“We have a great team, from the owners on down to those behind the scenes,” said Valenzuela. “This filly was broke by Ruben Soto. She’s always been a pro- fessional, does everything right. She’s a trainers dream, she mostly trains herself. She won her trial, but it was the last heat and a head wind came up. We snuck in with the last time and our rider chose another horse in the finals. We have to give credit to first year and first time rider Jacob Enriquez. We are looking down the road to the Four Corners Futurity trials at SunRay.”
Apollitical Showoff (Apollitical Jess-Covenant Confirmer) was 2nd under Emilio Tapia for Darian Burt & trainer Wesley Giles. Wagon Coast (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Me Chickie) was 3rd under David Reyes-Frisby for Juan Clark and trainer Norma Reyes. Followed by KJ Desparado (Apollitical Jess-Tres Veses), Thru My Eyes (Fly Thru The Fire- Dawn Of A New Day), Woman In Gold (Mr Jess Perry-Hold Me Now), New Year Secret (First Down Dash-Secret Separation), DQ’d from 2nd to 8th B In Excess (Freighttrain B-Excess In Tambien TB) & Im Flashy (First Moonflash-Ima Major Chamisa).
Desert Classic Futurity
BF SHES OUTRAGEOUS

Trainer Wes Giles had the $60,610 Desert Classic Futurity at Turf Paradise on April 28 surrounded, sending out four of the field’s nine runners. When the dust settled at the end of 300 yards, Wiles
had swept the top three placings led by BF Shes Outrageous, a smart 1 1/4-length winner over her stablemates Run Time in second and Tickle the Nickel in third.
Ridden by Emilio Tapia, BF Shes Outrageous broke in third, but surged to the front in a matter of strides. She powered home strongly to score by daylight at the finish, stopping the timer in a lively :15.389. The final clocking, just ticks off Sea Panther Run’s 2016 track record of :15.265, earned a 102 speed index.
Owned by Kevin Birrell, BF Shes Outrageous has now earned $30,977 in her two career starts. She finished second in her Desert Classic Futurity trial heat—beaten just a nose—in her career debut on April 5 and was the second-fastest qualifier from six trials. Bred by Birrell Farms in New Mexico, BF Shes Outrageous is produced from the Proudest Effort mare BF Outrageous.
Run Time (Big Daddy Cartel-First Prize Amanda) and jockey Luis Valenzuela followed the winner home in second for owner Ezra Elton Lee. The bay filly won her trial by 1 1/4-lengths. Tickle The Nickel (Big Daddy Cartel-Penny Snatchin) flashed early zip under Adrian Ramos and held
third for owner Jill Giles and Kathy Lee. Tickle The Nickel won her trial and was the 3rd-fastest qualifier.
Antinori (Big Daddy Cartel-Miss Totts), Pennie Wize (Big Daddy Cartel-Thirty Fourth Street), Mister Bigg (Big Daddy Cartel-Sandys Jesse), Empty Promise (Separate Interest), Boneta Flat (Big Daddy Cartel-Miss Dash Ta Dial) and Branch Rickie (Heat Warning-A Mere Formality) completed the order of finish. Dale Yeah, Day Thuggin, and Walkin Away were scratched.
Mail Tribune Handicap
JL REBEL

JL Rebel came into this race having won his last two of three races. He added another win to his stats in the Mail Tribune Handicap, a 350-yard stakes held at Grants Pass Downs on May 17 with a total purse of $15,400.
The seven-year-old gelding stepped away from the three post and received the first call out of the gates. Jockey Jaime Lopez offered plenty of hustle and encouragement, and that effort helped them cross the finish line a neck in front of the rest in a wire-to-wire performance.
JL Rebel and Lopez stopped the clock at :17.418 to earn a 99 speed index. The sorrel gelded son of Cancino Dash also earned the first place check worth $7,500, which takes his total bankroll to $27,969. His race record now stands at seven wins from 15 races.
JL Rebel is owned by Jaime Lopez Sr., who also is his conditioner.
The gelding was bred in Oregon by Yaqueline Ibarra. He is out of the 2006 mare Afterglow.
She earned $21,058 and a 105 speed index during her racing career. She was the AQHA Northwest Hi-Point Filly and at five she was named the AQHA Northwest Hi-Point Aged Mare. The mare is a five-time winner. She finished second in the 2009 Portland Meadow Derby and is a multiple stakes finalist.
Afterglow has produced four foals. Her best product is JL Rebel.
CM Boom Shakalaka (Carters Cartel-Mi Fames A Dandy) took a hard bump at the start, then went on to run a steady and even race to take second place. His connections include owner Chris A Sutton and trainer Nick Lowe. Luis Gonzalez was handling the reins. The 6-year-old gelding is a four-time stakes winner and multiple stakes finalist.
L Bar D Genuine Red (Genuine Strawfly-Be First Rose) didn’t break the best but came running down the lane to pocket third place money. He
is owned by Jose Escobedo and trained by Juan
C Sanguino. Erick Garcia was in the irons. The 7-year-old gelding is also a stakes winner.
The remaining field finished in this order: Heza Southern Cartel (Carters Cartel –SS Southern Lady), Loosin My Lover (Sixthirteen TB-Lover Cat), Jess Ozzy (Jess My Moon-Jungle Song), Approval Given (Kiddy Up-Just Checking), Mighty Tony T (Dominyun-L Bar D Mighty Fine) and Warhock (Zoomin For Bux-Copa Show Girl).
