Sinuous was the only broodmare to place in the top five in all four categories used to determine the Broodmare of the Year.
broodmares nationwide. Named the AQHA Champion Two-Year-Old Gelding, Apollitical Gold won the Golden State Million-G1,
and finished third in both the All American Futurity-G1 and the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity-G1. The Grant R. Cox Revocable Trust home-bred Apollitical Gold. SRC Gold is one of 10 broodmares who produced an AQHA Champion, but the only one of those 10 to finish in another statistical category in the calculations that determine Broodmare of the Year.
A Perfect Cocktail joined Sinuous by producing a pair of stakes winners in 2020 competition. The big earner in the duo is Apollitical Patty, who hauled in $894,192. Racing entirely at Los Alamitos to date, she won that track’s Two Million Futurity in December—one of six trips to the winner’s circle in an eight-race rookie season. A Perfect Cocktail ranked fifth in total money earned by her foals, with a $965,505 total.
High Class Broad produced more total stakes wins in 2020 than any other broodmare in the country, with six. That’s the only category where 2020 Broodmare of the Year Sinuous did not finish on top. Sinuous had to settle for second, with Answer The Dream in third, both mares

with four stakes wins apiece. All six of those stakes victories for High Class Broad came from SS Classyjess, a four-year-old filly who reeled off those wins during a busy 2020 schedule that included 10 outs at four different tracks. SS Classyjess scored a stakes win at four venues: Evangeline Downs, Lone Star Park, Retama Park, and Louisiana Downs.
Remember Me Rose, the Speedhorse Broodmare of the Year for 2019, also produced two stakes winners in a category where Sinuous got the nod because of her total money earned. Remember Me Rose finished seventh in money earned, with 11 different starters contributing to that total.
Sinuous had a strong racing career before becoming a broodmare. She won four of 12 outs, amassing $105,956 in prize money. She is stakes-placed, finishing second in the 2010 Dash For Cash Derby-G2 and third in that year’s running of the Heritage Place Derby-G1.
Five of Sinuous’ offspring made starts in 2020. The standout of the brood, as pointed out above, was Whistle Stop Cafe. Her owner is the Whitmire Ranch, and she is trained
by G. Blane Wood. As a two year old, the Freighttrain B filly went undefeated in six starts in 2020, collecting $1,974,986 in
prize money. In addition to her 2020 World Championship title, she was recognized as
the Champion Two Year Old and Champion Two-Year-Old Filly. Her championship campaign included winning both the
Rainbow Futurity-G1 and the All American Futurity-G1. She set the 440-yard track record in the latter. She also won the Heritage Place Juvenile. Whistle Stop Cafe was ranked #1 by 2020 earnings and #2 by 2020 wins.
Ivory James sired three of Sinuous’ offspring who competed in 2020.
Marfilmio si 102 joined Whistle Stop Cafe as a stakes winner during the year, capturing the Two Rivers Stakes-G3 and competing in three other stakes, including a third-place run in the First Down Dash Handicap-G3 at Los Alamitos. Mansory si 105 made six starts, winning three times and finishing second in the Prairie Dash Stakes at Prairie Meadows. Veterran si 94, who was sired by Ivory James, failed to reach the winner’s circle as a rookie but did secure three runner-up finishes in four starts with $11,690 in earnings.
Other 2020 starters produced by Sinuous included Meticulus si 85 (by FDD Dynasty).
