“. . . you can enjoy all four seasons . . .”
Q: If you were not in the horse racing business, what job would you like to have?
A: I love animals, so I probably would have liked to work in a vet’s office or work at an animal shelter to help find homes for the homeless or abandoned animals.
Q: What is your favorite thing about living where you live?
A: Living in Indiana, just south of Indianapolis, and being just hours away from several major cities. I enjoy the weather here, where you can enjoy all four seasons. I am not fond of the winter sometimes—especially when we get lots of snow or when the temperature gets below zero.
Q: If you could vacation anywhere on the planet, where would it be and what would you do there?
A: I would like to visit Italy and see the Leaning Tower of Pisa. I don’t know if I am brave enough to climb the staircase.
Q: Do you have a favorite quote and, if so, what is it?
A: “Where there is a will there is a way.”
Q: If you could sit down and visit with anyone, past or present, who would it be?
A: That is a difficult question to answer. From the past, I would like to visit with my late husband and my mother and father. What
are their thoughts on what is going on down here now? For the present, I would like to visit with Dolly Parton. She’s such a classy, great country singer and a shrewd businesswoman.
Q: What drink would your friends describe you as and why?
A: My friends would probably say sweet iced tea. I am always drinking sweet tea.
Q: Who’s your favorite athlete of all time, and why?
A: I always try to watch the gymnastic events in the Olympics. Mary Lou Retton was one
of my favorites and I believe she is one of the finest woman gymnasts in the world. Her performances were amazing. Despite the pain she endured, she never would call it quits. She has determination and an attitude to strive for perfection, and she always had that big smile on her face.
Q: If you were making a movie about yourself, who would you cast to play you, and why?
A: I would choose Reba McEntire to play the part of myself in a movie. I still watch the reruns of her TV series “Reba.”
Q: What’s one thing you don’t like about Quarter Horse racing?
A: There are so many factors that go into getting a horse ready to race and I believe most of the public isn’t even aware of them. It all begins with the trainer getting the horse ready, to getting a jockey, saddling
in the paddock and loading in the gates. Then you hope for a clean start, and that your horse gets out quick. It can be nerve- wracking at times.
Q: What’s one thing you like about Quarter Horse racing?
A: For me, I like that I have bred and raised most of my own race horses. If they do well, it is quite an accomplishment and makes it all worth it. Plus, there is the excitement of watching the horse you bred running down that track, hopefully to a win.
