a breeder – the stallion’s first three dams are each a stakes winner or stakes-winning producer and are also bred by Pevehouse.
Pevehouse-bred horses have won 44 stakes and include Grade 1 winners Send Me The Candy, Send Me A Candy Tree and This Candys Red Hot.
Last year, trainer Jaime Gomez finished the
year ranked third nationally in earnings with $2,861,932. His name is consistently near the top of the standings. His record includes 89 stakes wins, capped by 36 Grade 1 victories. He has won virtual- ly every major stakes race at Los Alamitos, including the 2017 Los Alamitos Two Million with J Fire Up, the 2017 Los Alamitos Super Derby with Chazaq, and the 2008 Champion of Champions with Jess You And I. Add to the list Gomez’s multiple wins
in the Ed Burke Million Futurity, Golden State Million Futurity, Kindergarten Futurity, PCQHRA Breeders’ Futurity and the Go Man Go Handicap.
A 2-time AQHA Champion Jockey, Cody Jensen was in the irons for Gomez in Chazaq’s Super Derby win. His lifetime earnings stand at nearly $38 million.
At Ruidoso Downs, Jensen has two All American Futurity wins, four Rainbow Derby wins and two Ruidoso Futurity wins to go with an All American Derby victory. He also has Grade 1 wins at Los Alamitos, Remington Park, Sunland Park and Lone Star Park.
The 2008 Champion 3-Year-Old Colt, One Famous Eagle won seven of 11 starts and earned $1.3 million for owners Burnett Ranches Ltd. and Johnny Trotter.
Bred by Trotter, the son of Mr Jess Perry won the 2007 Grade 1 Los Alamitos Two Million Futu- rity, the 2008 Grade 1 Los Alamitos Super Derby and the Grade 1 Golden State Derby. Now owned by the One Famous Eagle Syndicate, the stallion stands at Four Sixes Ranch in Guthrie, Texas. He has sired four Champions – 2012 World Cham- pion One Dashing Eagle, who in turn is the sire
of Champion Eagle Jazz, and Champions Imperial Eagle, Hes Relentless and Moonin The Eagle.
In 2017, Fly Baby Fly became his third All American Futurity winner from just six crops to race. One Dashing Eagle and Imperial Eagle are his other All American winners. Last year, One Famous Eagle’s offspring earned $5.2-million of his career progeny earnings of $23.6 million.
Lowell Neumayer, who is the general manager of the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale Company, was honored for his long service to the industry and was recognized for building the breed’s most elite sale. In 1989, Neumayer’s first year, the Select Yearling Sale grossed $1.7 million. The 2017 Se- lect Yearling Sale and the New Mexico-bred Sale grossed a combined $20 million. The 2017 New Mexico Sale included the first in-utero sale.
When Neumayer joined the sale staff, he planned to stay one year, but he’s still going strong.
“I’ll be here until they fire me or I fall over dead,” Neumayer said.
Chaplain Darrell Winter stands ready to welcome worshipers to the new 8,640-square foot chapel at Ruidoso Downs Race Track.
RUIDOSO DOWNS NEW CHAPEL OPENS
On July 29, Ruidoso Downs Race Track opened the new 8,640-square foot chapel. To decrease backside traffic and improve security, the new chapel is located near the casino and is accessible through the track’s main entrance.
“I’ve been overwhelmed with the generos-
ity from the horsemen’s community to see this nearly 10-month project happen,” said Chaplain Darrell Winter. “We are watching God move hearts to join in this ministry, and it has remind- ed us why this ministry exists. The ministry is a caregiver to both the spiritual and physical needs of our community of workers.”
The building is divided equally between kids’ program facilities, meal fellowships and a place of worship that seats nearly 300 people. One unique feature is a prayer room that will be open 24 hours, 365 days a year.
The kid’s ministry includes a computer room, a library, a Bible lesson area, crafts

area and a breakfast area. There is also an outside play area.
Winters said when the project began the guid- ing verse was, “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.” Psalms 127:1
Now that the project arrives at completion, Winter says that God has fulfilled the verse through a community of support.
Winter’s theme for the opening day message is: “But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given what comes from your hand.” 1 Chronicle 29:14
SUPERIOR FOR ZOOMIN FOR SPUDS
The second Idaho-bred of the year has earned an AQHA Supreme Race Horse title. The award recognizes a racing American Quarter Horse that earns $500,000 or more, wins two or more open Grade 1 stakes races and at least 10 races.
Only a few months ago, Idaho-bred BH Lisas Boy became a Supreme Race Horse, and on July 8, his rival, Zoomin For Spuds, achieved the same award while defeating BH Lisas Boy in the Vessels Maturity-G1 at Los Alamitos.
Zoomin For Spuds races for his breeder, Jim Walker of Bellevue, Idaho, and is trained by Monty Arrossa. The 5-year-old gelding is by Zoomin For Bux and out of the Corona Cock- tail mare A Perfect Cocktail.
From 31 career starts, he has won 11 races, including nine stakes races. Two of those were the Grade 1 Champion of Champions and Ves- sels Maturity. The sport’s Champion 3-Year-Old Gelding of 2016 has earned $650,441.
Zoomin For Spuds became the 41st horse since 2002 to earn this honor. Only 112 horses in total have earned the award; the other awards were given retroactively.
