The first yearling sale of the season was held July 27-28 in San Antonio, Texas. The 21st annual Texas Quarter Horse Association Yearling Sale saw 187 horses sell over two days, marking a slight decrease over last year. Overall sales, gross and average were down approximately 25% over last year and the median price decreased 16%.
Hip #48, Avyator (One Famous Eagle- Quick Moon Sign, Royal Quick Dash), was the sale topper at $68,000. Consigned by Bobby
D. Cox, the bay yearling colt was purchased
by JF Racing & Farm LLC. Avyator is half- brother to seven stakes horses, including Mystic Lake Northlands Futurity winner Midnight Sunlight and Central Hi-Point Aged Stallion Luminaro. Avyator is by Champion/World Champion sire One Famous Eagle and out of multiple Grade 1 winner Quick Moon Sign.
Bobby D. Cox also consigned the second highest seller at $57,000, Hip # 117, Alchemyst (Freighttrain B-Zenergy, First Down Dash). The yearling brown colt, who was purchased by Dillon Lane, is a half-brother to stakes win- ners Zenergetic and Enthusiastique. He is by leading sire Freighttrain B and out of Grade 1 finalist/winner Zenergy.
The leading buyer was Jose Favian Hernandez, purchasing three horses for a total of $99,000. The leading consignor/agent was Bobby D. Cox, selling 14 horses for $365,200. The leading sire by average with two or more sold was Tempting Dash with 12 head selling for $26,583.
