Alberto Bailleres Classic: Subasta Selecta Futurity Consolation
REY ALFREDO
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Speedhorse
For this race, only nine of the ten horses were entered with the absence of the geld- ing Cartel Elegante from Rancho El Suspiro
who recorded the fifth best time. The total purse allocated for this race was $650,850 pesos ($32,410 US approximately), which was also contested at 350 yards.
There were two owners with double repre- sentation: Cuadra Sajoma, with Sea Jack and Cartel Regio; and Cuadra Baldeli with Perla Cartel and Rey Alfredo, the latter being the one who took to his account 50% of the purse mentioned above, while the other three men- tioned captured the second, third and fourth place, as will be detailed later.
In the race, Miss Krash Chick (#6) faced traffic problems that forced her rider to look for space on the outside of the track. While that
was happening, in the center the battle was between the stablemates Cartel Regio and Sea Jack, who were joined by Rey Alfredo well led by Paul Osvaldo Rodríguez, who took advantage
of his position from the right side of the group. Breaking free from the pack with decisive-
ness and tenacity, he subdued the leaders and
crossed the finish line with 3/4-length over Cartel Regio who came in second and
left Sea Jack in third by 1 3/4-lengths.
The race time was :17.09
for a speed index of 96,
notably improving the :17.36
clocking he recorded in his
qualifying race. In this way
he takes to his record the fourth victory in five outings at the track and adds profits of $325,425 pesos ($16,205 U.S. approx.).
Rey Alfredo is a bay gelding who was bred
in Mexico by Rachuán Suárez Kuri, owner of
the stallion Fearless Fritz and the mare Proud Corrina (by Corona Cartel). This same cross pro- duced the winners Proud Freeda SI 96, $21,176, and Proud One Eyed SI 96, $5,424.
The special guest at the awards was Betty Bernal Berge, representing the American Quarter Horse Association, who was accompa- nied by Dr. Anselmo Aguilar Payán, Treasurer of the AMCCCCM. Trainer Ismael Ayala
and Paul Osvaldo Rodríguez received the
corresponding trophies in the name of Cuadra Baldeli.
The entry of the Cuadra Sajoma consisting of Cartel Regio (Danny Cartel-Eye Teller, by Teller Cartel) and Sea Jack (Sea Horse Corona-Cause
I Know Jack, by Jacksboro) obtained the second and third places, directed by Aarón Adrián
Gómez and Mario Alberto López Marmolejo, respectively. Their trainer is Gonzalo Bastida Pacheco.
Perla Cartel (Danny Cartel-Six Royal Alibis) was fourth and was followed by AS Tormenta (Palm Beach-Kool Showgirl), SE Cartel Wine (Cartel Success-Wine Down), Miss Krash Chick (Krash Cartel-BP Wave Chick), Dale Of Glory (Bay Eagle Glory-Halies Dale) and Jesies Last Boy (Fearless Fritz-Teller Jessie).
