Cold Cash 123 returns to the winner’s circle after scoring his third stakes win of 2011.
Cold Cash 123’s dominance at 440 yards due to his powerful late run has allowed him to overcome many slow starts during his career. It’s rare for the gelding to be among the early leaders in a race.
“He has never been better than fifth out of the gates,” related Carolyn Bay.
“He doesn’t have to be first out of the gates, he just has to be clean out of the gates, and then he’s okay,” Walter added. “He got out of those gates exceptionally well this time. Probably the best he’s ever got out of the gates. When I watched him come out of the gates, I said, he’s in the ballgame, because he was right there with them.”
In the Championship, Cold Cash 123 broke on the lead from post position nine. Sunland Park track announcer Robert Geller called Bodacious Dash first out of the gates, followed by a quick and rather surprised call of Cold Cash 123. An observer on the rail voiced what many were thinking: “Cold Cash 123 is in front? This race is over.”
And indeed, it was. Cold Cash 123 ran
away to a domineering one-length victory in the Championship at Sunland Park. Bodacious Dash
