                                 Scoopies Leaving You Stakes
LOVE THE WAY YOU FLY
by Michael Cusortelli
Todd Matte’s Love The Way You Fly led at every call en route to a 1 1/4-length victory in the $30,000 Scoopies Leaving You Stakes for Louisiana- breds at Evangeline Downs on Dec. 18.
Prepped by Trey Ellis and aided by a reported 5-mph tail wind, Love The Way You Fly covered 250 yards over a sloppy and sealed track in :12.832. Juan Garcia Jr. rode the 4-year-old son of the Corona Cartel stallion Furyofthewind.
Love The Way You Fly was purchased by Matte for $50,000 at the 2018 Louisiana QHBA Yearling Sale. The colt was bred by Copper Spring Ranch LLC, and he is out of Lovethewayyoulie, a daughter of Champion Tempting Dash who won the 2014 Heritage Place Futurity-G1 at Remington Park.
Love The Way You Fly recorded a 116 speed index from his third career stakes victory. Raced exclusively in Louisiana, the colt has won six of 20 outs and has banked $205,761, and his race record includes a 1/2-length victory in the 220-yard Flying Breed Stakes at Delta Downs on July 31. He ended his sophomore campaign with a second-place finish, 3/4-length behind winner Lifeinthefastlanes, in
the 400-yard $274,000 Louisiana QHBA Breeders’ Derby-RG3 at Evangeline Downs.
Odds-on favorite Steam Rollyr (Freighttrain B-Jen Tilly) ran second and earned $6,000 for his owner, Alejandro Sanchez Jr. Everardo Rodriguez rode the 4-year-old gelding for trainer Rosendo Valdez Jr.
Powerhouse Cartel (Mr Piloto-Corona Deluxe) finished third, 1 1/2-lengths behind Love The Way You Fly. Eleazar Hernandez rode the 5-year-old gelding for owner SLC Racing LLC and trainer Leonel Hernandez.
Brileys Prize (Ajs Fast Dash-Ms Wandas Prize), On Point (Five Bar Cartel-La Jollan Queen), and Perry Mouse Tale (Paint Me Perry-FMJ Mouse Tale) completed the order of finish. Politically Blue was scratched.

FLYING ADELIA
by Michael Compton
Flying Adelia ran to her name in streaking to victory in the $50,000 Louisiana Million Invitational at Evangeline Downs on Dec. 18.
Ridden by Ubaldo Luna, Flying Adelia raced in 4th position early in the 400-yard fixture. She hit her best stride in the lane and with a big late run swept past the leaders close to home to score going away
by 3/4-length over stablemate Apolliticalfastlane. She covered the distance in :19.602 over the sloppy (sealed) track, earning a speed index of 95.
“We always had faith in Flying Adelia; she just never left the gates sharply,” said trainer Kenny Roberts Sr., who saddled both of the top two finishers. “But tonight, she broke really well. Apollitcalfastlane got shut off, but came running at the end.”
A homebred for Margaret McKerley, Flying Adelia is now a winner in two of seven lifetime starts, and the $30,000 winner’s share of the purse increased her lifetime bankroll to $44,720. Bred in Louisiana, Flying Adelia is produced from the Strawfly Special mare Flying Marguerita.
Flying Adelia broke her maiden two starts back and then finished second in her Nov. 26 trial dash. She is paid into the Mardi Gras Derby at Louisiana Downs.
Runner-up Apolliticalfastlane (Apollitical Blood- Pantherinthefastlane) vied throughout and held 2nd under David Alvarez for owners Jason Richards & Michael Leblanc. TF Fearless Runaway (Sir Runaway Dash-Freda Blue) and jockey Everardo Rodriguez was in the mix and finished 3rd for owner Jaime Cardenas and trainer Rosendo Valdez Jr. Followed by JRS Carters Queen (Carters Cartel-Queen Djenne), Sir Thorn Dash (Sir Runaway Dash-Thorn Chicks), Gamefaceprize (Fast Prize Dash-Baby This Girls Game), Bakers Big
Ol Boy (Jess Louisiana Blue-Lynns Fortunate One), Freighttrain Game (Freighttrain B-Game Snowlady) & Blue Dashin (Jess Louisiana Blue-Dasha Effort). KK Sandra Patriot was scratched.
Dashingly Handicap
JESS FORTUNATE
by Tracy Gantz
Los Alamitos focused the spotlight on fillies and mares on Jan. 2, carding both the Charger Bar Handicap-G1 and a new event, the $25,000 Dashingly
Handicap. While favored Kiss Thru Fire won the Charger Bar, 12-1 Jess Fortunate upset odds-on favorite Famous Shining Star in the Dashingly.
The nine entrants were well matched, most of them coming to the wire almost simultaneously. Jess Fortunate broke fourth under jockey Jonathan Roman and got right into the thick of the cavalry charge. At the wire, Jess Fortunate put her nose on the line first in :17.670 for 350 yards.
Martha Wells claimed Jess Fortunate for $16,000 in the filly’s fourth start on July 19, 2020. Wells said she selected Jess Fortunate primarily as a breeding prospect and would retire the filly after the Dashingly Handicap, which was only Jess Fortunate’s third attempt in a stakes, but she won two allowance races.
Markum Corner K bred Jess Fortunate in Arkansas from Fire And Delight. All three of
the mare’s starters are winners. The second dam, Fortune Of Delight, was an AQHA Broodmare of the Year and produced Champions A Delightful Dasher and Hes My Dasher.
Jose Flores trains second-place Famous Shining Star (One Famous Eagle-Thewayouwantmetoo) and third-place Elphaba (Kiss My Hocks-Witchs Streak). Cruz Mendez rode Famous Shining Star for owner Johnny Trotter. Jairo Rangel piloted Elphaba for owner Bobby Simmons. Both fillies are allowance winners getting their first stakes-placings.
Completing the field were More Than Looks (Favorite Cartel-Look Her Over), Cotton Cartel (Special Cartel-Cotton Belle-TB), Go To Girl (Favorite Cartel-Remember Me Rose), Political Babbel (Apollitical Jess-Shanachee), Terra Fire (Walk Thru Fire-Terrific Energy), and Chance It Now (Favorite Cartel-Elans Last).
