                 Texas Quarter Horse Association Yearling Sale
July 28-29, 2023 Preliminary Results

The 26th annual Texas Quarter Horse Association Yearling Sale was held July 28-29 at the Exposition Hall at The Freeman in San Antonio, Texas.
Total sales reached $5,926,700 for 267 horses sold of the 383 offered. While the total saw a decrease, the sale saw an increase in the median of $16,000 compared to last year’s record-breaking year of $14,000. The average price of $22,197 was down slightly from last year’s $23,922. Five yearlings over the 2-day sale broke the six-figure mark.
The $155,000 high seller was Hip #177, Eagle Aye (One Famous Eagle-Miss Aguilar, Tres Seis), who is a half-brother to Grade 1 stakes placed Mperativ. The colt is out of Miss Aguilar, half-sister to Grade 3 winner Ivan James and out of New Track Record setter First Dashin Bye. Consigned by Bobby D. Cox, the colt was purchased by Vista Del Sol Inc.
Purchased by Roger Beasley/Wootan Racing, the second high seller at $150,000 was Hip #168, Mountainaire (Favorite Cartel-Preyn Onthe Mountain, Ivory James). The colt, who was consigned by Bobby D. Cox, is the first foal out of Grade 1 stakes winner Preyn Onthe Mountain.
Equifine LLC, the leading buyer of the sale, purchased eight horses for a total of $194,000, followed by Renee Wilson with five horses purchased for $190,000. The leading consignor was Bobby D. Cox with 13 horses selling for $774,500, followed by Bielau Oaks, Agent selling 14 horses for $293,600. One Famous Eagle was the leading sale sire with two yearlings averaging $110,000, followed by Favorite Cartel with two horses averaging $95,000. The leading first-crop sale sire was Chilitos with 26 yearlings selling for an average of $19,642.
