The 47th annual Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders’ Association Yearling Sale was held Aug. 4-5 at the Coushatta Casino in Kinder, Louisiana.
Total sales reached $7,654,600 for 435 horses sold of the 537 offered, which was a 7% decrease over 2022. Preliminary results showed an average of $17,781, a 6.8% decrease compared to last year, and median sales were $12,000, an 11% decrease over 2022.
The $240,000 high seller was Hip #529, Famous Train (Freighttrain B-Famous Corona Lady, Corona Cartel), who is a half-brother to multiple stakes winner Jest Famous. Consigned by Grants Farms LLC, the colt was purchased by Paragon Farms.
Purchased by Bobby D. Cox, the second high seller at $130,000 was Hip #306, Right Down Broadway (Freighttrain B-Shakemupperry, Mr Jess Perry). The colt, who was consigned by Run Bayou Ranch LLC, is a half-brother to LQHBA Louisiana Million Futurity-RG1 winner You Drive I Fly.
LQHBA Executive Director Bruce Salard noted, “Louisiana based broodmares coupled with strong Louisiana based stallion roster led to a successful sale for consignors and buyers.”
Jerry DeVille, the leading buyer of the sale, purchased 17 horses for a total of $781,000, followed by Rancho El 48 with nine horses purchased for $371,500. The leading consignor was Grant Farms LLC with 34 head that sold for $1,005,900, followed by Robicheaux Ranch Inc., Agent selling 28 horses for $602,700.
