Las Américas Derby

Ponte Trucha ran his fourth race at the Hipódromo de Las Américas in Mexico City. He debuted on March 12, 2023,
winning the Easily A Possum Classic. His next two outings were in the AMCCCCM Classic and the AQHA Mexico Derby Challenge, where he placed third, to return on July 23 to win the 400 yard $278,200 pesos ($16,070 U.S. approx.) Las Americas Derby.
From the beginning, his trainer Rubén Romo García entrusted his riding to Yair Daniel Báez Soto, who on this occasion guided him from the 1-post in a straight line for a wire-to-wire finish by a neck over the filly Jess Call Me Angel (#5). They completed the 400 yards in :19.61 for a 90 speed index, the highest he has obtained in Mexico.
With this win, the son of Duponte and out of Apollitical Dasher by Apollitical Jess, now
has a race record of 11-6-0-4. He raced as a two year old in the United States, with his last state side race being on Sept. 16, 2022, at Lone Star Park. He won the Louisiana Downs Futurity-G3 and finished third in the Sam Houston Futurity-RG2, as well as the TQHA Sire’s Cup Futurity-G2.

Gavilanes, the bay gelding added $139,100 pesos to his earnings, which is already approaching $5.3 million pesos.
Rubén Romo García received the trophies from Adriana Gómez Barnola, President of the AMCCCCM, and José Mauricio Dorantes, Equestrian Operation Manager of the Las Americas Racetrack.
Second place went to Jess Call Me Angel (One Sweet Jess-Im Game Lets Play),
a position she also held in the Easily A Possum and AMCCCCM Classics, this time under the guidance of Heriberto Camacho Sotelo. The filly belongs to the Cuadra Leny, being saddled by Hugo Estrada López.
In third place was placed SE Corona Cruzin (Corona Cartel-Penelope
Cruzin), ridden by Alejandro Gómez for owner Cuadra Santa Elena and trainer Joaquín Ramón Peláez Cortes.
KVN Diva (KVN Corona-Favored), Gray Cartel (Krash Cartel-Coconut Crystal), From Arizona (Favorite Cartel-Kingman Kin) completed the order of finish.
