  3-Bar-D Ranch in Canadian, Texas, where he lived until his death. Knight won the 1974 All American Futurity and Kindergarten Futurity aboard World Champion Easy Date for owner Walter Merrick and trainer James McArthur.
He also rode Easy Date to victory in the 1975 Champion of Champions, Golden State Derby, and the Rainbow Derby. He won the 1979 All American Derby on Champion Dickeys Fireman for trainer James McArthur and owners Lyle Simmelink and R. Farnam. Among his other
top wins were the Black Gold 350 Futurity on Rambling Effort in 1986 and Win Shady Lady in 1988; and the Independence Day Handicap on Champion Plunder Bay in 1973. Knight rode the winners of over $6.7 million from the early 1970’s through 2009.
Gone To The Mountain Dies
2009 Champion Distance Horse and 2010 Champion Aged Stallion Gone To The Mountain (Panther Mountain-Lindys Bouquet, Fast Lindy) died on July 30. The 2005 brown stallion won or placed in 20 of 25 starts and earned $458,837 with seven stakes wins, including the AQHA Distance

America Futurity-G2, New Mexico Distance Challenge-G3, Herman Jefferson Stakes-G3, Sunland Distance Challenge-G3, and the Master Salls Handicap (twice). He earned a 115 speed index and set a New World Record at Sunland Park in 2009 while winning the 870-yard New Mexico Distance Challenge-G3 by 6 3/4-lengths. Gone To The Mountain was bred and owned by Clyde Woerner, and he was a leader by earnings in 2007, by wins in 2008 and wins and earnings in 2009. He is the sire of over $1 million.

 The photo on page 264 shows multiple stakes winner Savannah Jr (Everett Jr. TB-Savannah Gray, Question Mark). Racing for only two years from the age of two until three, Savannah
Jr won or placed in 12 races from 14 starts with earnings of $280,992. The gray stallion won the 1965 All American Futurity, Oklahoma Futurity and Sunland Park Fall Futurity and the 1966 Ruidoso Championship. He was also third in the 1966 Rainbow Derby. Savannah Jr was named Champion 2-Year-Old Colt in 1965 and Champion 3-Year-Old Colt in 1966.
After a short, but successful career, Savannah Jr went on to sire 170 winners from 282 starters with 39 blacktype horses, including New Track Record setters Savannah Whammy, Spy Glass, Step N Out, Suevannah, Savannah Annie, Savannahs France, Rafter Jr, Shameless Hussey, Savannah One Time and Leviathan.
