Javier & Elsa Marquez of J&M Racing & Farm, owners of JM Miracle, with their children.
Volcom, sire of JM Miracle.
Lethal Delight, dam of JM Miracle.
The win by JM Miracle in the 2014 All American Futurity-G1 has its beginning with his breeder P. K. Thomas and his wife Kim. Thomas, a lifelong rancher, started hauling horses that led to owning racehorses and then an interest in breeding racehorses. His interest led to the purchase of a colt named I Will Runaway First that is known today as Volcom, the sire of JM Miracle, and a filly named Lethal Weapon that is the third dam of JM Miracle. The dam of JM Miracle is Lethal Delight (Dean Miracle-Miss Lethal, Chicks Beduino). The Thomas breeding program has produced runners that have earned over $6 million.
The mating of Volcom with daughters and granddaughters of Lethal Weapon flirted with an All American Futurity win in 2011 when Lethal Volt made the All American finals with a fifth place finish. Lethal Volt was not only sired by Volcom, but he was out of
Miss Lethal, the second dam of JM Miracle. Lethal Express, a full brother to JM Miracle made his presence known at Ruidoso with a win in the 2014 Ruidoso Juvenile Invitational.

the 2013 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale where he sold to J & M Racing & Farm, owned by Javier and Elsa Marquez, for $40,000. When they bought him, he was named Volcoms Express but later changed to JM Miracle. They sent him to Jose Muela to train. The focus of the racing plan for JM Miracle was the
All American Triple Crown, to compete in the Ruidoso Futurity-G1, Rainbow Futurity-G1 and the All American Futurity-G1.
JM Miracle won his first start breaking his maiden in the trials to the Ruidoso Futurity-G1. He covered the 350 yards in a
How Many More (6th), Hes Relentless (7th), Wagon Full of Gold (8th), Fatal Policy (9th) and Houdini (10th).
Handsome Jack Flash won the All American Futurity-G1 with Jaime Leos in the saddle. They went the 440 yards in :21.166, which was at that time the sixth fastest time for the race behind No Secrets Here, Heartswideopen,
DM Shicago, Ochoa and Eyesa Special. You will note that two of these runners - Heartswideopen and DM Shicago have an affiliation with Carl and Fredda Draper.
Handsome Jack Flash earned $1.3 million of the $2.6 million purse. He did not start again in 2013. He had five starts with four wins and one second earning $1,482,271 for the year. He was named the 2013 Champion Two Year Old and the Champion Two-Year- Old Gelding.
The racing career of Handsome Jack Flash resumed in 2014 in the Rainbow Derby trials and the All American Derby trials with a win in each trial. He did not qualify and that was his last win in seven more starts. He was third in the New Mexico Classic Derby-G2 and retired in 2016 with a record of 14 starts, six wins, one second and two thirds. He earned $1,517,491.
The quest of Handsome Jack Flash to
win the All American Futurity brought some interesting combinations of people together.
It brought Debra Laney and Norma Alvarez together in New Mexico to each breed Quarter Horses in pursuit of their love of horses with the dream to win the All American Futurity.
It brought Juan Gonzalez from Mexico to New Mexico to become a successful racehorse trainer of two All American winners. His first All American winning owner was Nahum and Rosella Prieto, owners of 2003 All American Futurity winner By By JJ. The Gonzalez family made this edition of the All American a family affair as the runner-up was Reagal Eagle, trained by Eduardo Gonzalez, Juan’s brother for Nahum and Rosella Prieto. That makes for a memorable All American Futurity, especially for those who fulfilled the All American Dream thanks to Handsome Jack Flash.
