A DELIGHTFUL LEGACY
Leading broodmare A Delightful Legacy (First Down Dash-Fortune Of Delight, Six Fortunes) died on March 16 at the age of 18. Bred and owned by Gwendolyn Eaves, the 2001 Graded stakes winning mare
won 4 of 6 starts and earned $179,153. As a broodmare, she produced 32 foals, 26 starters, 18 winners/ROM and 6 black- type winners, including 2-time Champion Inseperable and Grade 3 winner/first crop sire Seperate Interest.
CHECK HIM OUT
Check Him Out (Hennessy TB-Check Her Twice, First Down Dash) died in August at Haras Vista Verde in Brazil, where he had been standing since 2012. Bred by Zory Kuzyk, Check Him Out won $419,000 on the track running for Kuzyk, Wayne Lukas, John Andreini, Blane Schvaneveldt and Laura Lukas. The 1999 chestnut stallion won the Ed Burke Memorial Futurity-G1, Golden State Derby-G1 and PCQHRA Breeders’ Derby-G2. After his career on the track, Check Him Out went on to sire the earners of over $8.5 million, including 2013 Champion Aged Mare Check N Fetch. He is also the broodmare sire of 2018 Mexico Champion AS Macho.
CORONA CARTEL
Corona Cartel (Holland Ease-Corona Chick, Chicks Beduino) passed away on Dec. 18 at the age of 25. The bay stallion was the all-time leading living sire of money earners with over $63 million at the time of his passing. During his career on the track, Corona Cartel earned $577,142 winning three stakes races, includ- ing the Los Alamitos Million Futurity-G1 and Kindergarten Futurity-G2. He entered stud
in 1997 and stood his entire career at Lazy E Ranch in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Corona Cartel has sired nine Champions, including World Champion Blues Girl Too, and is the brood- mare sire of six Champions, including World Champion Bodacious Eagle.
FIRST MOONFLASH
Champion/multiple Champion sire First Moonflash (First To Flash-Nagano Moon, Major Rime) was euthanized on May 29 at the age of 14 due to complications from laminitis. Bred by Dosi and Norma Alvarez and owned by a partnership, First Moonflash won 14 of
25 starts, including 10 stakes victories, with earnings of $969,828. First Moonflash set three
New World Records and was named the 2009 Champion Aged Stallion. After his career on the track, First Moonflash retired to Double
LL Farm near Bosque, New Mexico, where he stood his entire stud career. From only seven crops to race, First Moonflash is the sire of $18.6 million, including 2-time Champion/
All American Futurity-G1 winner Handsome Jack Flash, Champion Foxy Moonflash, and 2-time 2018 ChampionFlash And Roll, and All American Derby-G1 winner Too Flash For You.
FURYOFTHEWIND
Champion Furyofthewind (Corona Cartel- Dashing Phoebe, Dash For Cash) died at the age of 16 the last week of January 2019 after complications from colic. Owned
by Copper Spring Ranch, Furyofthewind stood at Robicheaux Ranch in Louisiana. Bred and raced by Kirk M. Goodfellow, Furyofthewind won three of 19 starts, includ- ing the California Derby Challenge-G3. He was a finalist in the Golden State Derby-G1, AQHA Derby Challenge Championship-G1, El Primero Del Ano Derby-G1, California Juvenile Challenge-G3, Rheudasil Handicap and Whosleavingwho Handicap. He is the sire of 175 winners from 10 crops, including Champion Brace For Bernal.
HEZA FAST DASH
Heza Fast Dash (Heza Fast Man-First Prize Dash, Dash For Cash), AQHA racing’s #8 all-time leading sire of money earners, was eutha- nized on Jan. 24 at the age of 21 after complica- tions from laminitis. Bred by Weetona Stanley, Heza Fast Dash earned $136,123 and won or placed in 11 of 18 starts, including a victory in the Blue Ribbon Futurity-G3 and a second in the Remington Park Futurity-G1. After his career on the track, the 1998 bay stallion was purchased by a partnership and moved to Robicheaux Ranch where he stood his entire stallion career. Heza Fast Dash is a Champion sire of over $32 million.
JESS LOUISIANA BLUE
Champion and leading sire Jess Louisiana
Blue (Mr Jess Perry-The Louisiana Girl, Louisiana Slew TB) passed away on Dec. 21 from natural causes at the age of 21. Bred and owned by J.E. III, D.C. & C.T. Jumonville and trained by Kenneth Roberts, the 1998 stallion won or placed in 12 of 25 races with earnings of $170,682 and a 440 New Track Record at Delta Downs. Named Champion Aged Stallion in 2002, he won the AQHA East Championship Challenge-G2 and was second
in the AQHA Challenge Championship-G1. Among Jess Louisiana Blue’s top perform-

ner Jessa Louisiana Zoom and Louisiana Senator, a New Track Record setter and winner of the Remington Park Invitational Championship-G1, Leo Stakes-G1 and Refrigerator Handicap-G1. Jess Louisiana Blue stood his entire career at Jumonville Farms.
LA RAPID KING JUDEA
LA Rapid King Judea (Rapid Fire Jess-Queen Judea, Strawfly Special) died at the age of three following a sudden colic attack on Aug. 28. He won 12 of 17 races and earned 4,299,013 pesos (more than $200,000 US dollars). LA Rapid King Judea won the Subasta Selecta Futurity and finished second in the Mexican Breeders Futurity - merits that earned him the title of 2018 Mexican Champion Two Year Old. At three, he won
five consecutive races, including the Garañones Derby. His connections include breeder/
owner Ramiro González Ozuna of Cuadra Los Gavilanes, trainer Rubén Romo García, and jock- eys Francisco Javier Fernández, Yair Daniel Báez Soto and Mario Alberto López Marmolejo.
VOLCOM
Volcom (First Down Dash-Runaway Vike, Runaway Winner) was euthanized on April 30 due to complications of laminitis. Owned by P.K. Thomas, the 16-year-old stallion earned $430,433 and won 11 of 23 starts, including the El Primero Del Ano Derby-G1, Los Alamitos Winter Championship-G1 and Los Alamitos Prep Handicap. After his career on the track, Volcom went on to sire the earners of $5 mil- lion and 25 stakes horses, including Champion Volcom Bay and High Money Earning Horse JM Miracle. “Lazy E Ranch felt very fortu-
nate to have had the opportunity to stand this outstanding stallion for P.K. during his stallion career,” said Lazy E Ranch manager Butch Wise.
WHOSLEAVINGWHO
2001 Champion 3-Year-Old Gelding and 2002 Co-World Champion Whosleavingwho (Chicks Beduino-Lil Bit Rusty, Easily Smashed) died at the age of 21 in Colorado. The AQHA Supreme Race Horse and #1 all- time leading money earner by Chicks Beduino earned $1,334,842 on the track winning the 23 races, including 10 stakes events and eight Grade 1 events. Bred by Gordon R. Haslam, Whosleavingwho raced for owners Jim Geiler and Kim Kessinger and was trained by John Bassett and Paul Jones.
