Dale Stewart Rouk, 79, passed away. Rouk
was a member of the Keeneland sales team for over 40 years until he retired in 2009. While working at the Quarter Horse Journal, he met Tom Caldwell and the two partnered in the California-based Caldwell-Heerman Sales Company. Rouk served as Sales Manager of
the Ruidoso Horse Sale Company, worked for Ocala Breeders’ Sales and numerous Quarter Horse auctions, was a founding member of
the Panhandle Team Penners Association of Amarillo, was twice named Texas Thoroughbred Association Breeder of the Year, and was well- known at Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred auctions across the country.

Longtime horseman, racehorse trainer and Montana racing official Russell R. Pepper, 75, passed away. Pepper, who served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, worked as a field man for the Record Stockman and Western Livestock Journal and was the co-owner/ operator of Birdtail Ranch Angus and Treasure Bull Test. He served as president of the Montana Quarter Horse Association and of the Montana Angus Association. He was a State of Montana Horse Racing Steward, a Montana State Fair Advisory Board Member (2 terms), and a longtime member of the American Quarter Horse Association and the American Angus Association.

Lotta Love For Robyn si 97 (First Down Dash- Love Ya Miss Jess, Mr Jess Perry) was named
an AQHA Dam of Distinction in 2016. The 2009 sorrel, who was bred by Kim Kessinger and Jim Geiler, is owned by Reliance Ranches LLC. Lotta Love For Robyn earned $238,746, winning two races and finishing 2nd in the Cypress Handicap and 3rd in the Rainbow Juvenile. She was also 4th in the All American Futurity-G1 and a finalist in the All American Derby-G1. The mare has produced Grade 1 winners Tres Friends si 97 (2016, $921,632) and Lotta Blues Man si 94 (2016, $875,763).

Longtime racehorse owner Ronnie Keller
passed away at the age of 77. Among the most successful of his racehorses were 2001 AQHA Juvenile Challenge Championship-G1 winner Ronnie Jace and two-time Grade 3 winner/1998 All American Futurity-G1 finalist Militante.
January 16
Boyd Gaming Inc. announced the completion of its $45 million expansion of Delta Downs. The centerpiece of the expansion is the 167- room hotel tower with a 5,000 square-foot fitness center. The original 200-room hotel tower also received a complete redesign. The Delta Downs expansion is part of an ongoing effort to enhance amenities at Boyd Gaming properties across the country.

Longtime veterinarian Elbert “Doc” Hinshaw passed away at the age of 93. Hinshaw served in the U.S. Army and Navy, and graduated
as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University in 1948. During his more than 50-year career, he worked for the horse and greyhound racing industry as a veterinarian in Arizona, Nebraska, Colorado, and Nevada. Hinshaw served as the Arizona assistant state veterinarian in 1980 and was appointed as the state Veterinarian by the Governor in 1984.
