Abigail Kawananakoa purchased a Mr Jess Perry yearling filly named Jet Takeoff for $140,000 to top the eighth annual
Los Alamitos Equine Sale, held Oct. 6-7 at Los Alamitos Race Course in Cypress, California.
Out of the First Down Dash mare Takeoff Royally, Jet Takeoff is a full sister to All American Futurity-G1 runner-up Take Off Jess ($380,087). Jet Takeoff is also from the family of multiple AQHA Champion Royal Down Dash, multiple Grade 1 winner Time For Royal Cash and track record setter and stakes winner Divide The Cash. Her second dam is two-
time Broodmare of the Year Timeto Takeoff. Purchased from the 6666 Ranch consignment, Jet Takeoff was one of three yearlings that sold for over $100,000 at this year’s sale.
Sammy Valeriano purchased the Corona Cartel colt Risky Pursuits, a half-brother to Champion FDD Dynasty, for $102,000 to make him the second highest seller. Risky Pursuits was consigned by John Andreini, Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent. Andreini also sold the third highest seller, the First Down Dash filly Composed Charisma, for $100,000 to Vince Genco, Agent.
A total of 327 horses sold for $5,013,400 during the two-day event. The 279 yearlings sold went for a solid average price of $16,913 excluding repurchases. The yearling median price of $11,000 represented a 10% increase from 2011, while the average sale price for year- lings decreased by 7.7% from the near record numbers posted last year. The 2011 average was the Equine Sale’s highest average since 1996.
“The sale enjoyed a tremendous first day and a solid second day,” said Dino Perez, the business manager of the Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Racing Association. “The median price for yearlings was up significantly from 2011 and that’s a very positive statistic. The sale average for yearlings this year was also still up 28% compared to 2010. We had good crowds and a great atmosphere on both days. It was a very good sale.”
Dr. Edward Allred was the leading buyer with four purchases for $159,000. Sammy Valeriano made two purchases for a total of $150,000 and Julia Cesar Encinas bought eight head for $144,500. Burns Ranch, Agent, was the leading consignor with total sales of $1,302,500 while Dr. Allred was next with sales of $1,256,600.
Corona Cartel was the leading yearling sire, with four yearlings averaging a purchase price of $50,500. Mr Jess Perry was next with eight averaging $41,750, First Down Dash had 10 yearlings that sold for an average of $40,200, and Walk Thru Fire had 26 yearlings that aver- aged a sell price of $32,450 each.
