The 2017 Los Alamitos Equine Sale recorded an increase
in gross sales of 11.5% compared to 2016 figures. Preliminary results for the sale, which was held Oct. 7-8 at Los Alamitos
Race Course in Cypress, California, report 230 horses sold for $4,739,000. The average sale price for the sale was $20,604, up 7.1% over last year. A total of 205 yearlings sold for an average of $19,831, up approximately 5% from 2016. And, 18 mares sold for an average of $29,117, an increase of 17% over 2016.
The $145,000 high seller was Hip #309 Annas Babe (A Regal Choice-Babe On The Fly, Strawfly Special), an eight-year-old bay mare consigned by Firth Ranch, Agent and purchased by JGA Racing Stables Inc. The mare won 3 times on the track, was third in the Lanty’s Jet Handicap and was a finalist in the California Breeders’ Matron Stakes-RG3. The dam of Governor’s Cup Futurity-RG2 winner AJS Annas Smoke ($243,080) is a sibling to 6 stakes winners, including Rock You, Little Talks and Fly Thru The Fire. Part of the MacPherson Trust Dispersal, Annas Babe sold with a 2018 embryo by Separatist.
The $102,000 second-highest seller was Hip #259, Dont Pass Bar (A Regal Choice-Ynot Bar, Chicks Beduino), con- signed by Edward C. Allred and purchased by Steve Burns. The winning ten-year-old sorrel mare is the dam of 2015 Champion Aged Mare Quirky and is a sibling to Los Alamitos Winter Derby–G1 winner Ynot Walk. She sold with embryos by Stel Corona and Favorite Cartel.
Consigned by Firth Ranch, Agent and purchased by JGA Racing Consigned by Edward C. Allred and purchased by Steve Burns, the Stables Inc., the mare Annas Babe was the $145,000 high seller. mare Dont Pass Bar was the second highest seller at $102,000.
