Q: If you were not in the horse racing industry, what job would you like to have?
A: Something that had weekends off. Every job, except one, I have had to work either Saturday and/or Sunday.
Q: What is your favorite thing about living where you live?
A: I live here on the farm, so I guess my favorite thing is I don’t have far to commute, and it is very peaceful most of the time, but you can be in town in five minutes if need be. Every once in a while, it is also my least favorite thing about living here.
Q: If you could vacation anywhere on the planet, where would you go and what would you do there?
A: That is a tough question because there are lots of places I would like to visit. Probably Scotland because that is where most of my ancestors came from. But, Costa Rica might be nice as well— nice beaches and fishing.
Q: Do you have a favorite quote and, if so, what is it?
A: Not that can be printed in a family publication.
Q: If you could sit and visit with anyone, past or present, who would it be and why?
A: My dad, he passed a few years ago and I probably didn’t tell him I loved him often enough. I would sure like to tell him one more time and get his advice on a few things.
Q: Who’s your favorite athlete of all time, and why?
A: Probably have to go with John Elway. He was the biggest reason the Denver Broncos won the Super Bowl twice. But Phil Lyne was always sort of my hero; he was a great rodeo cowboy.
Q: If you were making a movie about yourself, who would you cast to play you, and why?
A: Maybe Tom Hanks. I don’t like his poli- tics, but he is a great actor.
Q: What’s one thing you don’t like about Quarter Horse racing?
The inability of the racing commissions to all get on the same page. People have been hopping/doping horses forever, and I am not condoning that in any way, but until all the commissions agree on rules across the board, we will continue to struggle with this issue. The federal government will eventually get involved, and I don’t think that will be good for horse racing at all.
Q: What’s one thing you like about Quarter Horse racing?
A: Aside from the horses, it has to be the people who I have met along the way. I
have made some great friends that I prob- ably wouldn’t have known if not for Quarter Horse racing.
