BRAZIL
The Jockey Club of Sorocaba ends its season.
The movement of Quarter Horse racing in Brazil is magical.
The Jockey Club de Sorocaba ended the 2012 racing season the weekend of Dec. 8-9 with the Grand Prix Encerramento. A total of 10 horses participated in three qualifying races, which took place on Saturday after- noon. The same day saw the running of the Special Dash Glory Ease Handicap, which is named after the winner
of last year’s GP Encerramento. Three horses made the finals of this year’s running of the GP Encerramento. The 301-meter race was exciting and very close between More Granite, Meteoric and Da Brat Vince.
The race went the best for More Granite. After 100 meters, the son of the stallion Granite Lake out of the mare More Fly, by Signed To Fly, shot forward, crossing the finish line first and stopping the clock at :16.36. The horse was ridden by E.B. Melo, trained by L. Levir, owned by Stud JSS, and bred by Érico Braga. The winner won the purse of R$87,000.
For Eric Braga, breeder of More Granite, 2012 was memorable for the Haras Prata. “It was a transition year where we ran the first crop of Granite Lake, a stallion who came to fill the space left by our main stallion, Signed To Fly. We knew the potential of the foals of Granite Lake, but we did not expect that we would have this much success. More Granite proved this potential on the track, scoring four important wins, and closed the year with a gold key. “
There were also two handicap races on Sunday named in honor of the sponsors of Jockey Club de Sorocaba.
In the Vetnil Handicap-Recipe of Champions,
the winner was Royal Memory Car (Royal Streakin Memory-Memoria Fly). The dapple gray 4-year-old was ridden by M.B. Sampaio and marked the time of :16.48. The stallion was trained by M. Sampaio, owned by João José C. de Barros and bred by Haras Carrera.
The MBA Auction Handicap was won by Inhaca Gold (Gold Medal Jess-Charlotte Bryan). Ridden by P. Santos, the 3-year-old chestnut filly marked the time of :16.63 in 301 meters. She is trained by M.C. Cruz, owned by Haras São Matheus and bred by Gianni Franco Samaja
