by MCY Racing Farm and purchased by Steve D. Burns, DVM
consigned by Vanessa Bartoo, Lazy E Ranch LLC, Agent and purchased by Butch & Stephanie Webb
The Jan. 19-21 Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale in Oklahoma City had something for everyone, including the crowning of the 2016 American Quarter Horse Association Racing Champions on the evening of Jan. 18. Prior to the Champion announcement, Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas appeared as a guest speaker. Before the sale began on Jan. 19, the AQHA hosted a Public Policy Forum; the AQHA hosted an open forum for Hispanic owners, breeders, trainers and enthusiast before day two of the sale on Jan. 20; and the Oklahoma Quarter Horse Racing Association hosted a reception and “Race Trackers Reunion” after day two of the sale.
The 38th annual event saw 88% of the horses sold and across-the-board increases, including a 3% increase in the average sale price over last year and an 8% increase in the median sale price.
“We had a great sale, but we couldn’t do it without great customers, so thank you to all consignors and buyers,” Heritage Place General Manager Spence Kidney told StallioneSearch.
“We look forward to a great year,” he added.
The high-seller at $225,000 was Eagle On The Fly si 103 (One Famous Eagle-Ladys Heart Of Gold, Strawfly Special), consigned by MCY Racing Farm and purchased by Steve D. Burns DVM. Eagle On The Fly, a 2012 bay mare, has earned $229,244 so far on the track with a first in the Lubbock Stakes, a second in the Hobbs America Futurity-G2, and a third in the Rainbow Futurity-G1. Eagle On The Fly is a full sister to stakes winner and multiple graded stakes placed One Fabulous Eagle si 97 (2016, $664,547).
The second-highest seller at $125,000 was Oak Hill Streak si 96 (Heza Fast Dash-Streakin Amber, Streakin La Jolla), consigned by Vanessa Bartoo, Lazy E Ranch, Agent and purchased by Butch and Stephanie Webb. The 2012 sorrel mare has earned $146,610 so far, winning the Audubon Stakes, Flashy Hemp Stakes, and the Louisiana Purchase Stakes in 2016. Oak Hill Streak is out of stakes winner/multiple stakes producer Streakin Amber si 98 ($80,455).
