Three Oh’s after his 1968 All American Futurity win with owner Dr. Dan Strole, trainer Bubba Cascio, jockey Jerry Nicodemus and Jake Cascio.
Three Oh’s won his trial and became the fastest qualifier in :20.03 for the 400 yards. Joada Bux was the second fastest with :20.08, followed by Ralph’s Lady Bug and Quincy Rocket, both at :20.14. Lady Bug’s Moon qualified fifth in :20.20.
The wagering on the race came down
to Joada Bux going off at 2 to 1 odds, with Three Oh’s and Lady Bug’s Moon sent off at
3 to 1. When the gates opened, Lady Bug’s Moon took the lead. It was a lead he held until Three Oh’s came flying under jockey Jerry Nicodemus. The winner was in doubt until
a photo showed that Three Oh’s had a nose victory over Lady Bug’s Moon. Three Oh’s won in :20.07 earning $160,372.
The third place finisher was Top Bug, with Ralph’s Lady Bug coming in fourth. This gave descendants of FL Lady Bug second, third and fourth place. FL Lady Bug is the dam of Lady Bug’s Moon. Top Bug and Ralph’s Lady Bug were out of daughters of FL Lady Bug. Joada Bux was fifth, with Jet Deck Junior, Rebel George, Kent’s Boy Creek, Go Flight and Quincy Rocket following her across the finish line.
Three Oh’s made nine starts at two with six wins, a second and a third ending as the High Money Earning Horse of the Year. He came back at three to make seven more starts with four wins
and a second, including two stakes wins in the Sunland Park Open to the World 400 and the Lubbock Downs South Texas Derby. He set a track record at Lubbock Downs in 1969 going 350 yards in :17.660. His total record shows 16- 10-2-1 earning $201,716.
Three Oh’s went to stud and sired the earners of over $4.8 million from just seven crops to race, including 428 ROM, and
57 stakes winners. He is the sire of 1981 Champion Aged Stallion Oh Shiney and 1975 Champion 3-Year-Old Colt Maskeo Lad. Three Oh’s is also the sire of Sinn
Fein, the broodmare sire of Mr Jess Perry, the #3 all-time leading sire of money earners with over $53 million in earnings.
Dr. Don Strole didn’t set out with Three Oh’s to win the All American Dream, but he did it on his first try with only one horse. They came back to the All American in 1971 with a filly named Decka Rita to
run eighth and then again in 1972 with Callmemyoh to run third. They were
back again in 1979 with Manifesto to
run ninth. So, with Three Oh’s they achieved the dream of winning the All American Futurity, and they did it by a
nose on their first try.
Three Oh’s was the first race horse purchased by Dr. Strole. He entered the All American Futurity for the first time with his first runner and won.
The plan was to make Three Oh’s an AQHA Performance Champion, but because of his bloodlines they thought he deserved a shot at getting his racing Register of Merit.
