Stolis Winner’s 2008 All American winning connections include owner Jerry Windham, trainer
and jockey G. R Carter Jr.
An added note: In January of 2009, test results came back and found that Stolis Winner showed contamination from caffeine in his
test sample. This led to the withholding of the race winnings for the All American Futurity winner and a suspension for Heath Taylor,
as there is a no tolerance rule in the New Mexico race system. The results of the test were appealed and in May 2009, a team of three hearing officers recommended, due to several extenuating circumstances, the reinstatement of race earnings for Stolis Winner and the lifting of the Heath Taylor suspension. The New Mexico Racing Commission agreed with the findings and reinstated the money and racing license.
Stolis Winner came back to the races in
August of 2009, qualifying for the All American Derby-G1. He was unplaced in the finals. Then
he qualified for the Dash For Cash Derby-G1, finishing second in the finals. His stakes win in 2009 was in the Texas Classic Derby-G1, and he finished the year as a finalist in The Championship at Sunland Park-G1. He had seven starts that year, with three wins earning $227,600.
The 2010 racing season saw Stolis Winner make seven starts with one win in the Sam Houston Championship Challenge-G2. He was second in the Refrigerator Handicap-G1, the race that earned him the title of the All-Time Leading Money Earner. Ironically, it was the earnings record of Refrigerator that he surpassed to win his title.
Stolis Winner earned $115,544 in 2010.
In 2011, he made six starts, winning the Remington Park Championship Challenge-G2, and earning $79,080 for the year. He retired with 29 starts, 13 wins, six seconds and two thirds, earning $2,242,661. Stolis Winner was AQHA’s All-Time Leading Money Earner.
The All American Futurity win by Stolis Winner certainly gave owners/breeders Jerry and Pat Windham bragging rights for the year. The Windhams were also the breeders of third place finisher Jess Zoomin and seventh place finisher Winners Version. And, they were also members
of the syndicate that owned Jess Zoomin. So, the 2008 All American Futurity was a banner year for a very successful breeding program, and it all came on the 50th anniversary of this great race.
