icario V, second in last year’s $3,000,000 All
American Futurity-G1, registered the initial stakes win of his career on June 10 with a game front-running victory in the $100,000 Ruidoso Invitational Stakes for horses that competed in the Ruidoso Derby trials and did not qualify for the finals.
Ridden by Francisco Calderon, Sicario V grabbed the lead away from the gate in the 400-yard test. It was the second career win for Sicario V, who won his Ruidoso Derby trial heat on May 28. The $42,000 winner’s share of the Ruidoso Invitational purse increased his bankroll to $512,485 for owner Valeriano Racing Stables LLC and trainer Santos Carrizales.
