The 43rd annual Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders’ Association Yearling Sale was held Aug. 1-3 at the Coushatta Casino Resort in Kinder, Louisiana. The three-day sale registered record numbers, saw a new all-time high sale topper, and had seven yearlings sell for six figures.
Gross sales reached $7,605,200 for 448 horses sold and marks the highest receipts in LQHBA sale history, topping last year’s record number by a solid 15% when 461 head sold for $6,616,100.
Preliminary sale results report that the 2019 average of $16,976 was an 18% increase from $14,352 at the 2018 sale; and that the median increased nearly 10% from $8,200 in 2018 to $9,000 this year.
TM Ranch, the leading buyer of the sale, purchased the LQHBA all-time sale topper for $605,000 in Hip #340, Son Of A Rogue (Jet Black Patriot-Miss Jess Rogue, Mr Jess Perry),
a price that is nearly three times more than the previous record for the sale of $210,00 set in 2018. Consigned by Triple M Farms LLC, Robi- cheaux Ranch Inc. Agent, the sorrel colt is a full brother to stakes winner Jet Black Rogue and a half-brother to four additional stakes winners and four stakes placers. Son Of A Rogue is by Jet Black Patriot, sire of over $12.2 million, and out of stakes winner Miss Jess Rogue.
The second-highest seller at $550,000 was Hip #195, A Real Train (BP Wagon Train-A Real Tornado, Streakin La Jolla). Consigned by Stable- wood Farm, Robicheaux Ranch Inc. Agent, the brown colt was purchased by Margarito Espinoza. A Real Train is by multiple stakes winner/first- crop sire BP Wagon Train, who was the leading sire by sale average, and out of multiple Graded stakes finalist A Real Tornado.
