Ryansmanonthemoon entered the All American Derby trials with two Graded stakes victories in 2019: the $85,000 NMHBA Stakes-G2 and the $211,142 Shue Fly Stakes-G3. In the trials to the All American Derby, the bay gelding was bumped early, but was up late to win the final heat of the day for the second fastest clocking. Bred and owned by Jimmy Negrete and Jimmy Vasquez and conditioned by Cynthia Gonzalez, Ryansmanonthemoon came into the trials following a second place finish by just a slim nose in the Zia Handicap. The gelding is a half-brother to 2019 Grade 2 placed winner Cat Daddys Girl ($109,656) and is out of Grade 1 winner Girlonthego ($174,146).
AMERICA RULES SI 97, $51,034
America Rules and James Flores broke on top from the 3-gate in their All American Derby heat, leading early but getting caught late to finish a neck behind in second. Their clocking was good enough to give them the third fastest qualifying time for owner Coke L. Gage Jr. and trainer Gerald Reed. Bred by Marla K. Robinson Family Trust, the sorrel filly has been in the winner’s circle twice when she broke her maiden in her first outing last year and when she won her trial to the Rainbow Futurity. Just prior to these trials, she finished second in her Rainbow Derby trial, qualified, and was eighth in the finals. America Rules is a half-sister to Champion American Runaway as well as to the dam of Valiant Tiberias, who also qualified to the All American Derby.
FLYING COWBOY 123 SI 101, $734,090
Flying Cowboy 123 and Ricky Ramirez won the first trial to the All American Derby by a clear 2 3/4-lengths. The sorrel colt is bred by Carolyn Bay, owned by Paragon Farms LLC, and trained by James Gonzales II. The connections had to wait through the remaining 11 additional trials to see if their time would hold, and it did – for the fourth fastest qualifying time. Flying Cowboy 123 has only competed in stakes competition in his career, coming into the trials with a victory in the $1,014,657 Texas Classic Futurity-G1 as well as a second in the $977,500 Rainbow Futurity-G1 and a fourth
in the $958,766 Ruidoso Derby-G1, after which he was named last year’s Champion Two-Year-Old Colt. Flying Cowboy 123 is a half-brother to World Champion Cold Cash 123 ($1,409,781).

Tools In The Sky hasn’t won a stakes event yet, but the sorrel gelding has been knocking on the door. He was fourth in the 2018 All American Futurity-G1, and a finalist in the Southwest Juvenile Championship-G1. Under jockey Ricky Ramirez, Tools In The Sky broke well from the 2-gate
in his All American Derby trial, taking the lead quickly and holding on for a neck victory after a bumped start. Tools In The Sky is bred by George and Rubel Villalobos, owned by Licon Farm and Ranch LLC and trained by James Gonzalez II. The gelding is a sibling to stakes winner One Hot Mecanic ($158,557) and is out of 3-time Graded stakes winner No Tools Required. The second dam is stakes winner Special Jelly Roll.
