He is the owner of over $266,000 in Quarter Horse runners, and he is the breeder of LQHBA Sale Futurity-G3 stakes winner Streakin Jake. Harold is survived by his wife Virginia of 66 years, a son and a daughter, numerous grand- children and great grandchildren, and many other family members and friends.
Sam Brookover Passes Away
Sam Brookover, 86, passed away on March 27 in Kansas. Sam worked for his father at the Broo- kover Feed Yard until his father’s passing when he took over the operation until a few months prior to his death when it was sold. Sam had land holdings in Kansas and Oklahoma, and he had a love of Quarter Horse racing. As an owner, he raced the earners of over $770,000, includ- ing top runners in Paul’s Valley Handicap-G3 winner Joshuas Boy, Covered Bridges Stakes-G3 winner Seb Ember, and Kansas Jackpot-G3 winner Sky Ro. He was also a partner in the ownership of Classified As Dash, one of only two horses to capture the Grade 1 Heritage Place Futurity and Derby. He is survived by many family members and friends.
Richard Wilcke Passes Away
Kentuckian Richard Wilcke, 79, passed away on April 18. While at Kansas State University, he competed in rodeo and on the livestock judging team. He served in the Marine Corps Forces Reserve, spent several years in broadcasting,
and worked as the director of information for the Kansas Livestock Association. He was the Vice President of the Kentucky Quarter Horse Association Breeders’ Incentive Fund, founding executive director of the Maryland Million, and executive vice president of the Maryland Horse Breeders Association. He joined the University of Louisville College of Business faculty, and later became the director of the Equine Indus- try Program. He is survived by his wife Janny, three daughters, eight grandchildren, one great- granddaughter and countless family members and friends.

 The photo on page 193 shows 1955 Champion Gelding Arizonan (Spotted Bull TB-Hula Girl P, Ed Echols), led by breeder/owner Art Pollard and under jockey David Leal, in 1965.
Arizonan raced from two-years of age in 1955 until 15 years of age in 1968. The chestnut gelding made 108 starts, winning 30 races, placing second in 18 and third in 14. He earned $31,143. The Kindergarten Futurity at Los Alamitos was one of two stakes races that Arizonan won. He also won the 1960 Sonoita Stakes at Santa Cruz. He finished second in the 1955 PCQHRA Futurity and 1955 Autumn Championship. He was third in the 1956 PCQHRA Derby, 1957 Shue Fly Stakes, and 1963 Leslie Ernenwein Memorial. And he was a finalist in the 1955 Southwestern Futurity, 1956 Barbra B Handicap, 1957 Miss Princess Invitational Handicap, 1957 Los Alamitos Invitational Championship, 1957 Maturity Stakes, 1958 Pomona Championship, 1962 Arizona Downs Championship, 1962 Clabbertown G Handicap.
Arizonan was the first winner of the Kindergarten Futurity in 1955. The race at that time had a purse of $5,400. The 2023 Robert Adair Kindergarten Futurity-G2 carries an estimated purse of $275,900. The trials were held on April 23, with the finals taking place on May 14.
