Pen Pal Stakes
KALI K

Already an experienced stakes contender, Kali K added a third stakes win to her record in the $17,800 Pen Pal Stakes at Arapahoe Park on Aug. 13.
Ridden by Valente Vorrath, the filly broke in fourth, but made a steady drive down the lane to cross the wire 1/2-length in front.
They completed the 350 yards in : 17.976, while posting an 89 speed index. The $10,680 winner’s share of the purse boosted her total lifetime earnings to $116,409.
Raced almost exclusively at Arapahoe Park with only one start at Sunland Park, Kali K has hit the board in 12 of her 13 starts, winning the Mile High Futurity as well as the Lucille Rowe Derby. She also placed in the Mile High Derby, Rocky Mountain Derby and Leo Beau Dash Stakes.
Trained by Alexander Orozxo, the filly is owned by Luis Marquez.
Darling Farms bred Kali K out of multiple winner A Secret Episode. Kali K is her first winner from two starters.
In second place was Painted Rare (Second Painted Sign-Eyes Especially Rare), ridden by Jarred Journet for owner Laura Celene Mendoza and trainer Chris Gandarilla. The gelding finished third in last year’s Dolls Prodigy Stakes.
Alexander Orozco also trained third place horse Jess No Secrets (No Secrets Here-Jess Breeze), who was ridden by Jose Arriola-Serrano for owner Ross Alire. The gelding has been a finlist in multiple stakes races, most recently in the Arapahoe Park Championship Challenge.
Jess Un Sies Mas (Apollitical Jess-Seis Star Glitter), Fools Cartel (Favorite Cartel-Fools Arekinda Blind) and Mr Dash Fire (Dash Kicker- Lovin M Leave M) completed the order of finish. Seis Coronas In was scratched.
Ontario Bred Futurity
SNOWMAGICALLYSWEET

Snow Magically Sweet broke her maiden in stylish fashion on Aug. 2, scoring a front-running victory in the $43,740 Ontario Bred Futurity at Ajax
Downs in just her second career start.
Third in her July 12 trial heat in her career
debut, the black filly clearly took a step forward in her second lifetime start. Ridden by Alexis Sanchez, Snow Magically Sweet broke alertly in the 300-yard test and dueled throughout. She poked her nose in front of race favorite Sugar N Pride in the lane and fought bravely to the finish, holding that rival at bay to prevail by a nose in :15.969.
Owned by Milena Kwiecien and trained by Jason Pascoe, Snow Magically Sweet, the fourth-fastest qualifier, collected the $17,497 winner’s share of
the purse, swelling her bankroll to $18,495. With the victory, Snow Magically Sweet became the first stakes winner for her sire, Maryland Magic, who stands at Kwiecien’s Snow Pony Farm in Ontario. Snow Magically Sweet was bred in Ontario by Brooke Sisson and is produced from the Dash to Chivato mare Sweet Little Chivato.
Runner-up Sugar N Pride (Sugarman Perry- Lady Pagrana), the fastest qualifier for the main event, just missed under Rachael Isaacs. The chestnut gelding, who broke her maiden in the trial heat in her career bow, is owned by George Coleman and is trained by Bob Broadstock. The winning connections also sent out third-place finisher Pretty Magicall (Maryland Magic-Pretty Jane Perry) ridden by jockey J.B. Botello.
General Skywalker (Look A Magics Form- Katies Award), Senator Rose (Caviar and Corona-Senator Woot), Fiesty Feebee (Sugarman Perry-Chisled and Fiesty), and You Are the Reason (Cold Hard Dash-Sassy Shades of Gray) followed. Dashes of Ivory, Double Dashin Corona, and Papa Chase Now were scratched.
Princess Derby
HAD TO BE IVY

For her first win since breaking her maiden last August, Had To Be Ivy proved to be much the best in the $38,703 Princess Derby at Ajax Downs on Aug.
9. Under jockey Josh Scott, the filly pulled to the lead in the stretch and finished a neck to the good. She covered the 350 yards in :17.710 for a speed index of 98.
Had To Be Ivy was awarded a winner’s purse of $15,482 for breeders and owners Carol and Jamie Robertson and trainer Bryn Robertson. The filly now holds career earnings of $36,018. Had To Be Ivy previously finished fourth in the Ontario Bred Derby andOntario Bred Futurity and was 5th in the QROOI Bonus Futurity.
Had To Be Ivy is out of the stakes winning mare Had To Be Fandango. Had To Be Fandango has over half a million dollars in progeny earnings. Had To Be Ivy is a full sibling to multiple stakes winning gelding Had To Be Ivory.
Silver Lyning (Separatist-Embrace Extravagance) and jockey Ed Walton closed in on second with a rush, crossing the wire by 1 1/4 lengths over the third-place finisher. The filly is bred, owned, and trained by Michelle Woodley. She won the Ontario Bred Futurity at Ajax Downs last July.
Kati On Fire (Capo De Capi-Catchin Fire) and jockey Ramiro Castillo finished fourth but were awarded the third place slot after the disqualification
of Firstprize Charlotte to last. The filly is owned by Kationfire Stables and trained by Bob Broadstock. She has won two of her five outs this racing season and
had jockey Ramiro Castillo aboard for this trip. The remaining horses crossed the wire as follows: Valiant Chick Insnow (Valiant Hero-Aj Chick In 15), Francesca (Highest Fire-Star Tour), Aquatica (Moonin The Eagle- Contingen Sea), Dam Im Relentless (Hes Relentless- Amsterdam), Just a KVN (Kvn Corona-Lethal Heat),
A Rushn Lilly (Rushago-Mood For A Dash), and Firstprize Charlotte (Dashair-Ms First Prize Pearl).
