Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Futurity-G1
RP LIVE WIRE DASH
by Danny Camp
It’s the most exciting time of the year for owners, trainers and jockeys. It’s futurity time. Paints and Appaloosas were center stage at Remington
Park when RP Live Wire Dash secured his first stakes victory in the $180,100 Oklahoma Paint and Appaloosa Futurity-G1 on March 24.
RP Live Wire Dash and Cap Attack drew away from their seven rivals at the break, and the two runners finished over 2-lengths ahead of their nearest rivals with RP Live Wire Dash winning by a neck. Gonzalo Gutierrez was aboard the winner as they stopped the clock in :15.285 to earn a career-best 95 speed index.
The $67,792 winner’s share of the purse boosted his total lifetime earnings to $71,122. The gelding is undefeated in two starts, which include the March 11 trials where the gelding won his heat wire-to-wire for the second fastest qualifying time.
Owner/breeder Roy Kent Perkins bred RP Live Wire Dash out of stakes placed RP Miss Reckess Dash. She has produced 100% winners from two starters, including Grade 1 finalist RP Recklesslivewire. RP Live Wire Dash is her first stakes winner and top money earner.
“My horse responded well. He didn’t leave very good from the gate, but after a couple
yards, he started running,” Gutierrez said. “He’s kind
of like, a little scared of the people, but still, he ran good.”
“This is a real quiet and
nice horse,” offered trainer
Ray Enlow. “He’s nice to be
around. Sometimes he’s so
quiet, I wonder if he’s gonna
be ready at race time. He came
back really good after the
trials, and after the finals you
wouldn’t even know he ran.
He cleaned up his feed, went to the middle of the stall and stood quiet. Sometimes, he will stick his head out to look and see what you are doing.”
When asked about the finals, Ray added, “He ran a good race, winning his trial heat, but we put a rig on him for the finals just to make him stand up in there. He tried it a couple of times, but when the gates came open he broke good. This horse has a lot of grit. If he can eyeball a horse in front of him, he will run him down. Gonzalo Gutierrez made a good ride on him.”
When asked what is next for the gelding, Enlow responded with, “We took RP Live Wire Dash home and we will let him stay there for
10 days or so, then back to the track. The owners are just cotton farmers and tickled
to death with the way he’s running. Next for RP Live Wire Dash is the PSBA on April 13.”
Running down on the inside rail, Cap Attack (Capo De Capi-Takin On Judy) and jockey Rolando Raudales took second for owner Planefun LLC and trainer Dee Keener.
DTL Harley Quinn (Coronas Leaving You- Eysa Savvy Queen) finished third for owners Joel Rod Pierce and Kyle Martin & trainer Matt Whitekiller. The legendary G. R. Carter was handling the reins.
Live Moonshine (CRM Livewire-PRP Sedona Sunset), Valiant Jess (Mighty B Valiant-Twenty Triple X), The Last Union (Dominyun-Texas Union), DTL Rousey (SF Royal Quick Flash-Barnes Miracle), Dancing Livewire (CRM Livewire-Eye Wanna Dance) and JS Prairie Chicken (SF Royal Quick Flash- Imachickenkicker) completed the order of finish. Special Quick Flash was scratched.
