From Diamond Spoon, Miller bred such runners as Takin On Spoon Man, winner of the 2003 Go Man Go Handicap-G1 at Los Alamitos, and stakes-placed Cassandra Crest, the dam of Apocalyptical Jess. Cassandra Crest has produced seven winners from nine starters, including stakes winner CC Seis and stakes- placed CC Kachina Eagle.
Robbins liked Cassandra Crest so much that he asked Miller if he would breed her to Apollitical Jess and let Robbins buy the foal.
“I wanted a filly,” said Robbins.
Instead, he got an All American winner. Valeriano Racing Stables LLC’s homebred Im
Jess Special V (Jess Lips-Special Folly Dash) fin- ished second in the All American final. Agustin Silva rode the gelding for trainer Toby Keeton. Im Jess Special V won two of his five previous starts.
Byron Woodard bred third-place No Mires A La Luna (First Moonflash-Dont Looke Ethel) and co-owns him with David Valdez. Ridden by Rodrigo Vallejo and trained by Trey Ellis, No Mires A La Luna had finished second three times and third once in seven previous starts.
