Fulton Quien Sabe Ranches LP bred Hotstepper in Texas from Pandorum, winner of the 2011 Sam Houston Juvenile Challenge-G3 and 2012 Ruidoso Derby Challenge. Hotstepper is the mare’s only starter thus far. Fulton Quien Sabe Ranches sold Ill Turn Your Head, Pandorum’s yearling filly by Tempting Dash, for $49,000 at this year’s Ruidoso sale the night before the Derby.
The family goes back to Daring Difference, the third dam. A Grade 1 winner, Daring Difference is a 1/2-sister to Grade 1 winner Mr Eye Opener and to stakes-placed Miss Eye Opener, she in turn the dam of World Champion Special Leader.
Fly Baby Fly (One Famous Eagle-Higher Fire), last year’s All American Futurity-G1 winner, ran second, with Rodrigo Vallejo aboard. Trey Ellis trains the filly for the Fly Baby Fly Partnership.
Bonifacio Perez rode Papaws Paint (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Heavenly Trip) to third
for trainer Todd Fincher and owner R H Resources. Papaws Paint won the 2017 Hobbs America Futurity-G2 and ran third in the 2018 Rainbow Derby-G1.
