the combination of trainer William Leech, jockey Ricardo Moreno, and owner Charles Stojan made it back-to-back wins on Oct. 21 when they scored with True Copy in
the Canada Cup Futurity-RG3 at Century Downs. In the previous race, they collaborated with Free Thought to take the Century Downs 770. While Free Thought won his race on the lead, True Copy had to come from midpack. After she broke on top, several rivals surged ahead of her. But True Copy powered home late in the 400 yards to win by 1/2-length in :20.042, earning a 103 speed index. The $27,167 winner’s share pushed the filly’s earnings to $38,591.
If not for traffic trouble in one race, True Copy might be undefeated. She won her first two races, then fin- ished third with the trouble and was promoted to second upon a disquali- fication in the Jerry Stojan Memorial Futurity. Following that performance, she captured two more races prior to the Canada Cup Futurity, including
a wire-to-wire win in the Evergreen Park Juvenile and a 2-length win in her trial to the Canada Cup Futurity as the fastest qualifier.
Dr. Ed Allred bred True Copy in California from Kansas Derby-G3 winner Realistically. The mare has produced four winners in eight starters, including stakes winner
Vivid and stakes-placed Smithy. Jose Rocha rode Honeys Pop A
Tac (Tac It Like A Man-Gols Honey Money Pop) to 2nd for trainer Buckey Stockwell & owner 4 B Stables. The gelding broke his maiden in a futurity trial in August. Knotty Knita (First Timber-Ima Jess A Streaker), bred, owned & trained by Wesley Oulton, finished 3rd under jockey J.B. Botello. The filly also ran 3rd in the Evergreen Park Juvenile Challenge. Followed by First Prize Cruise (First Prize Doc-Eye Cruise), Bringonthewave (Wave Carver- Special Corona), Stripsteak (One Sweet Jess-Ruths Chris), Atomic Blondie (Birdzilla-TB-Sables Val) & Stole An Encore (Ivory James-Rare Encore).
