The first yearling sale of the season was held July 26-27 in San Antonio, Texas.
The 22nd annual Texas Quarter Horse Association Yearling Sale saw 190 horses
sell over two days, marking a slight increase over last year. Gross, average and median, however, all increased significantly compared to last year. Gross rose 42%, average was up 39%, and the median saw a 46% increase over 2018.
Hip #77, Winglets (One Famous Eagle- First Fancy Racy, Carters Cartel), was the sale topper at $110,000. Consigned by Bobby D. Cox, the sorrel yearling filly was purchased by Mark and Annette McCloy.
Winglets is the first foal out of Grade 1 second placed First Fancy Racy, and she is
by Champion/World Champion sire One Famous Eagle. She is from the immediate family of Champions Miss Racy Jess and One Sweet Racy.
Burnett Ranches LLC/J. Sessions consigned the second highest seller at $90,000, Hip #12, Our Secret Sister (Hez Our Secret-Sister Jess, Mr Jess Perry).
The gray yearling filly, who was purchased by Jackie Sessions, is a full sister to Grade 2 winner Perrys Secret. She is by Champion Hez Our Secret and she out of a half-sister to multiple stakes runners.
The leading buyer was Alex Castaneda, purchasing 12 horses for a total of $134,100. The second leading buyer was Gonzalez Racing, purchasing five horses for a total of $128,500.
The leading consignor/agent was Bobby D. Cox, selling 13 horses for $548,500. The second leading consignor/agent was Granada Farms, Agent, selling 12 horses for $233,400.
The leading sire by average with two or more yearlings sold was Mr Jess Perry with three head selling for an average of $51,667. The second leading sire by average with two
or more yearlings sold was One Famous Eagle with six horses selling for an average of $49,833.
The leading sire by total sold was Kiss
My Hocks with 13 horses selling for a total
of $324,000. One Famous Eagle was second with six horses selling for a total of $299,000.
TQHA also hosted its first Horses-In- Training Sale during the two-day event, with 10 horses selling for a total of $43,400. The co-high sellers at $7,000 were: Hip #129, Streaky (Streakin Sixes-Viborita, Shazoom), a 2-year-old filly consigned by Michele
and Craig Snider, Roger Daly, Agent, and purchased by HSC Inc.; and Hip #131, Blue Eyed Cartel (Sizzlin Cartel-The Louisiana Lassie, Feature Mr Jess), a 5-year-old horse consigned by M&D Racing Stables and pur- chased by Javier Alvarez Jr.
