 THE BROODMARE SIDE
Rocket Bar became the broodmare sire
of horses that earned $8,100,906 with 637 racing ROM and 46 stakes winners. His list of Champions includes two AQHA Racing World Champions in Tiny’s Gay and Charger Bar, as well as Wanta Go the 1975 and 1976 Champion Aged Gelding. Some of the other stakes winners from his daughters are: The Shogun, winner of $374,052 including the 1983 Dash For Cash Derby; Senator Sage, winner of $268,794 including the Barbra
B Handicap-G3; and Laderago, winner of $206,800 including the Los Ninos Handicap.
The pedigree of Wanta Go by Ettabo brings us to the Rocket Bar/Joe Reed P-3 cross we have seen in the foals of Rocket Bar. The dam of Wanta Go is Mid Rocket, who is by Rocket Bar and out of Micky Bar by Mid Bar by Barred, who is out of Ready by Red Joe of Arizona by Joe Reed P-3. When we add Ettabo, the sire of Wanta Go, into the pedigree, we find another cross to Leo as Ettabo is out of Etta Leo by Leo.
Laderago is by Go Man Go and out of Apachette’s Bar by Rocket Bar. Apachette’s Bar is out of Apachette by Super Charge by Depth Charge. Apachette is out of Betsy Ross Bassett by Joe Reed II. Thus, Apachette’s Bar has the Rocket Bar/Joe Reed P-3 cross. Apachette’s Bar comes from the female family of Easy Six. The dam of Betsy Ross Bassett
is Phoebe C, a full sister to Peggy Cooper who is the fourth dam of Easy Six, the sire of Streakin Six. We also have to note that Go Man Go is sired by Top Deck.
The Shogun gives us a different look at his pedigree. His dam is No Bushes by Rocket Bar and No Bushes is out of No Anchor by Anchor Watch, who is the sire of Tiny Watch - the sire
of Tiny’s Gay, a horse we will look at later. Senator Sage gives us a Rocket Bar-bred
horse with a pedigree outside the Joe Reed P-3 cross. He is out of Sweet Julianna, who is out of Twayna by Rebel Cause by Top Deck, who is out of Riverboat by Chicaro. Yeager’s Lady JA, the dam of Twayna, is the dam of FL Lady Bug, the dam of Lady Bug’s Moon.
Senator Sage and his Top Deck breeding brings us to the Rocket Bar/Top Deck cross we also saw with Laderago. Top Rockette represents this cross. She had 68 starts, winning 17 stakes and earning $217,923.
She was the 1968 Champion Mare, the 1968 Champion Three-Year-Old Filly and the 1970 Champion Aged Mare. Top Rockette is the dam of 10 foals, six starters/ROM and one stakes winner in Easy Six Rockette, winner of the 1982 Vandy’s Flash Handicap. Easy Six Rockette, in turn, is the dam of Four And Two, winner of the 1990 Bardella Handicap. Top Rockette is out of Kay Deck by Top Deck, who is out of a daughter of Chicaro. Kay Deck is out of Kay Katy by Bob KK by Flying Bob, who is by Chicaro. This gives Kay Deck a breeding pattern of 3x4 to Chicaro.
THREE POWERFUL FAMILIES
Many stallions don’t have the distinction of having an impact on both sides of the pedigree, but Rocket Bar does with his sire line influence and his influence through his daughters. The interesting part of how a stallion can influence the female side of the pedigree is through
the tail female line, or that line we follow
on the bottom side of a bracket pedigree. It often begins with the Tap Root Mare, or the foundation mare of that line in the pedigree. We will look at three tap root mares and the families they started with Rocket Bar.
We will start with Tinky Ann, a mare
who was A rated (75 speed index in official records) getting her ROM with four wins
in 35 starts and earnings of $3,464. She is
the dam of five foals/starters with one stakes winner and two stakes placed runners. Her foals earned $31,985.00. Her stakes winner
is La Ree Bar by Rocket Bar, winner of the 1964 Intermountain Futurity. Her first stakes placed runner is Charlie’s Pride by Booger H, third in the 1961 Intermountain Futurity. Her second stakes placed runner is Shadow Rocket by Rocket Bar, third in the 1967 Oklahoma Derby and Rocky Mountain QHA Derby. Her fourth ROM runner is Atom Ann by Voo Doo Rocket, a finalist in the 1970 Bonneville Futurity. Her next foal is La Ree’s Rocket by Rocket Bar, a race winner.
La Ree Bar entered the breeding shed to develop her own line of outstanding runners from this family. Her daughter Charger Bar won a phenomenal 21 stakes races, including 1971 Champion of Champions. Charger
Bar was the 1971 World Champion, 1971 Champion 3-Year-Old Filly and the 1971 Champion Mare. She went on from there to win the Champion Aged Mare title three times and the Champion Mare title three times.
Charger Bar is the dam of three stakes winners, including: Blushing By, a five time stakes winner including the 1996 Go Man Go Handicap-G1; Proud Heritage, winner of the 1979 Vandy’s Flash Handicap; and Go Proudly, winner of the 1983 La Primera Del Ano Derby-G1. Perfect Reflection, a winning daughter of Charger Bar, is the dam of Secret Reflection, who is the dam of 1998 Jazzing Hi Handicap winner On Reflection. Charger Bar daughter Go Elegantly is the dam of Feathering, winner of the 1997
