and KN Fabs Mist Of Fame ($144,056). The interesting fact about these two-barrel horses is that they are full sisters out of a daughter of Dash Ta Fame named Mistys Dash Of Fame. This gives these two a breeding pattern of 4x5 to Tiny Watch.
THE LOOK AND THE GUTS
When we started our look at Tiny Watch, we set out to find out why this stallion has had a lasting influence as a crossover connec- tion in barrel racing. As we have studied the pedigree of Tiny Watch, we found horses with race records that show speed, soundness and heart - all factors that work well in barrel rac- ing. A Barrel Horse News article, “The Impact of Tiny Watch” by Jennifer Zehnder, gives us information that tells us how those factors have come out in the Tiny Watch crossover connection to barrel racing. These comments came from Marlene McRae, Janet Stover and Kristie Peterson and express their opinion of the Tiny Watch influence on barrel racing.
McRae reported in the article, “When
I won the world on Dutch in 1983, he was
a very green barrel horse.” She went on to explain that she thought the Tiny Watch bloodline was “underestimated.” She believes this bloodline was strongest on the maternal side of the pedigree.
She then added, “Dutch was a freak of nature like Bozo and any of the great Tiny Watch horses. They just love to run barrels. If you’re lucky enough to get one, it’s definitely a blessing and a real treat.”
Kristie Peterson became interested in the blood of Tiny Watch with a gelding named Blue Whizz Bob (Bob), a grandson of Tiny Watch. This was a horse she had success with in jackpot barrel races that lead her to Bozo,
making her a fan of the Tiny Watch horses. Peterson simply stated, “Tiny Watch and
Tiny’s Gay gave them a lot of guts.”
For Janet Stover, it was a look that the
Tiny Watch bloodline gave some very famous horses like Dutch, Bozo and Stingray that brought her to the bloodline. It was a look that made them special. She explained it this way, “I saw Dutch had Tiny Watch in his pedigree. I knew Bozo had some in his, and Sherry’s good horses went back to him as well. When I went to see Bo [Gotewin Bo], he had that look. And sure enough, that’s what he was, a Tiny’s Gay.”
Stover then added, “Bo sold me on the bloodline. If I see that in the pedigree, I defi- nitely pay attention. I don’t know if there’s a perfect cross. It just seems like you can cross that horse with lots of different bloodlines and you always come out with a special horse.”
The crossover connection of Tiny Watch started with horses like Dutch, Bob and Bo, and the speed, heart and special look they brought to barrel racing. Now, we are seeing this influence perpetuated through horses like Dash Ta Fame, Tres Seis, Frenchmans Fabu- lous and many others that carry the crossover connection of the blood of Tiny Watch to barrel racing. Then, we see how this line will be perpetuated through linebreeding, making Tiny Watch a Hallmark on barrel racing and why his line will not fade like so many others.
As an added note: Lynnder 16, the winner of the $864,500 Remington Park Oklahoma Bred Futurity-RG2 on April 21; DF AJ Green Leaves, the winner of the $317,400 Remington Park Oklahoma Bred Derby-RG3 on April
21; and Eagles Fly Higher, the winner of the $100,000 Remington Park Juvenile April 21, all trace back to Tiny Watch.
One of the patterns we have seen in the Tiny Watch horses is the ability to show versatility.
NHSRA Reserve AQHA Girls Horse of the Year Frenchmans Fabulous (above with Sue Miller), a 7/8-brother to French Flash Hawk & PC Frenchmans Hayday, is the sire of over $1 million, including . . .
