Luv My Fame, aka Layla, and Stevi.
Stevi was able to get an embryo out of Morning Traffic (Frenchmans Guy–Evening Traffic, Dash Thru Traffic), aka Martini, the 2011 palomino mare who is owned by Cody and Michelle Darling and who helped Stevi get to the NFR in 2016. “We were able to raise our first baby born in 2017 out of her and by Dash Ta Fame, and I plan to train and compete on this one in the future,” Stevi says.
Her list of barrel-racing accomplishments includes a second-place WPRA Rookie of the Year finish in 2012 with $28,181, and career earnings of $393,386 as of April 2018. She entered her first Wrangler NFR (2016) ranked sixth and placed in five rounds, finishing the year with $156,528.
In 2017, she earned $199,619, winning at
the Caldwell (Idaho) Night Rodeo and setting an arena record there; Cheyenne (Wyoming) Frontier Days; Spanish Fork (Utah) Fiesta Days; Livingston (Montana) Roundup; Black Hills Roundup in Belle Fourche (South Dakota); Rodeo de Santa Fe (New Mexico); Red Bluff (California) Round-Up and other prestigious events.
SHE CURRENTLY HAS THREE HORSES ON HER COMPETITION ROSTER:
• Cuatro Fame, aka Truck (Dash Ta Fame–
Princess Streaks, Streak Laico Bird), a 2007 bay gelding owned by Jason and Melissa Mouton. “He’s fast!” Stevi says. “He can really run and he’s super surefooted.”
• MCM Imasharpguy, aka Sharpie (A Sharp Frenchman–Mulberry Canyon Moon, Marthas Six Moons), a 2012 gray gelding bred and owned by Matt and Bendi Dunn. “He’s mortally fast — that’s his biggest strength. He can fly!” In 2017, Sharpie finished second in the AQHA/WPRA Barrel Racing Horse of the Year voting.
• Luv My Fame, aka Layla (Dash Ta Fame–Dr Nick Gold Thistle, Dr Nick Bar), a 2012 sorrel mare owned by Ty and Stevi. “She’s very gritty,” Stevi says. “She’ll give you her heart — she gives 100 percent no matter how she feels.”
TRUE TEAMWORK
Dave admits he’s a full-fledged Stevi fan. “I think my kids are my treasure,” he says of Stevi and his son, Cody, 38.
He has like admiration for Ty. “Ty could very easily be on the same platform as Stevi,” he says. “I know very few men who rope as well as he does, and when I asked him why he isn’t pursuing rodeo, too, he said, ‘You know, I looked at what I would change to be able to do that, and I see nothing
I’d want to change to make time for that.’ To me, it’s an awesome thing for him to be satisfied and content with helping Stevi reach her goals. I’m very impressed with him and he’s been a very successful young man in everything he’s done.”
Part of what he’s done is support and motivate Stevi. “My number one motivating
