The photo on page 211 shows Heza Fast Man (The Signature-Fast Copy, Fast Jet). The 1991 bay stallion was bred and owned by San Tan Tillage Inc., and raced until three years of age, winning 10 of his 17 starts and earning $801,356. Heza Fast Man won the 1993 Texas Classic Futurity-G1, 1994 Vandys Flash Handicap-G3 and 1993 Kevin Burns Memorial Futurity. Heza Fast Man broke his maiden in his first start on April 3, 1993 at Graham Fair in the trials to the Kevin Burns Memorial Futurity, setting a New Track Record for 300 yards. In his next start in the finals, he broke his own record for his second New Track Record. Heza Fast Man finished second by a nose in the 1992 All American Futurity-G1 to A Classic Dash, and second in the 1994 All American Derby-G1 by 1/2-length to I Hear A Symphony. Heza Fast Man was named the 1994 Champion 3-Year-Old Colt.
After a successful career on the track, Heza Fast Man went on to sire 380 winners with earnings of over $13 million. Among his top foals is 2002 Champion 3 Year Old/Champion 3-Year-Old Gelding A Real Man, who won the Heritage Place Derby-G1 and Remington Park Derby-G1, where he set a New Track Record. Heza Fast Man’s top money earner is Value The Man with over $730,000 banked.
Heza Fast Man was beloved by his owner and trainer, John Bassett, who once said, “Heza Fast Man is exceptionally quiet, and a gentleman . . . he’s so docile . . . we call him ‘Ole Lazy.’”
Heza Fast Man was euthanized at the age of 14 on Dec. 6, 2005, following a long battle with laminitis. He stood his entire career at JEH Stallion Station-Texas Division.
