Dr. Blodgett began representing Texas as an AQHA Director in 1991, and this year was elevated to Director-At-Large.
He has been a member of the AQHA Stud Book & Registration Committee since 1991, which he also served as chairman. He served on the AQHA Hall of Fame Selection Committee from 1995 to 2009.
Born in 1948, Dr. Blodgett grew up on a farming and ranching operation near Spearman, a small town in the Texas panhandle. He earned a bachelor’s degree in animal science from
Oklahoma State University and received his degree in veterinary medicine from Texas A&M University. He has since been recognized as an outstanding alumni by both universities.
Since 1982, Dr. Blodgett has been at the Burnett Ranches’ 6666 Ranch near Guthrie, Texas, where he is the resident veterinarian and manager of the Horse Division. During his tenure at the Four Sixes, the ranch has become an all-time leading breeder of both racing and performance American Quarter Horses. In 1993, 6666 Ranch was awarded the AQHA
Best Remuda Award.
“It’s been quite a ride. It’s been quite an
experience to have been involved with the Quarter Horses, all the people, the mare own- ers, just everybody involved,” said Dr. Blodgett of the Special Recognition Award and his time in the Quarter Horse racing industry.
“I have a very supportive family. My wife is involved in a day-to-day basis. I have a great staff of people. And a very, very supportive owner, Miss Marion, whom I’m very apprecia- tive of. It’s is a great honor.
The AQHA Racing Council Special Recognition Award was established by the Racing Council in 1989 to honor
a lifetime of outstanding service and dedication to the development, promo- tion and enhancement of American Quarter Horse racing. Members of the AQHA Racing Council choose each year’s recipient.
