Eysa Jess Jumpn, last year’s LQHBA Champion Two-Year-Old Filly, capped off another championship-caliber season with a
romping win in the LQHBA Breeders’ Derby on Dec. 7 at Evangeline Downs.
With regular rider Pedro Espinosa in the saddle, Eysa Jess Jumpn broke well in the 400-yard dash and simply dominated her foes.
The filly opened a
1-length advantage in the
early stages and rolled to the
finish 1 1/2-lengths to the
good over second place fin-
isher Mpshinning. Eysa Jess
Jumpn covered the distance
in a lively :19.315. Trained by Fructuoso Huitron, her final clocking earned a 105 speed index.
With this victory, Eysa Jess Jumpn remains perfect for the year—with nine starts and nine wins to run her overall record to 17-14(7)-0-1. The $124,895 winner’s share of the LQHBA Breeders’ Derby purse increased her earnings to $887,537 for owner Jose Estrada Quarter Horses.
In 2019, Eysa Jess Jumpn won the Billy Montgomery Stakes. She followed that by annexing the Sam Houston Derby-G3, the
Delta Downs Louisiana Bred Derby-RG3 and the Dash for Cash Derby-G2 at Lone Star Park. At two, she won five of eight out- ings, including the Lee Berwick Futurity-RG1, Louisiana Champions
Day Juvenile-RG2, and finished third in the LQHBA Louisiana Million Futurity-RG1.
“I thought $11,000 was a good price for a yearling, but I never imagined she
would win so many races,” owner Jose Estrada shared with the media following the win.
D & S Racing LLC bred Eysa Jess Jumpn out of winner Jess Jumpn, who was a finalist in the TQHA Sires’ Cup Futurity-RG2. The mare has produced three winners from four starters. Eysa Jess Jumpn became the first stakes winner in the brood.
Mpshinning (Mr Piloto- Shiningperrydash) and jockey Victor Urieta
had the early lead and offered game chase to secure the second place finishing spot this time around for owner Larry Boudreauz and conditioner Adrian Huitron. The graded stakes winning colt was bred by Jon and Donna McPherson.
Five Bar Perry (Five Bar Cartel-Miss Classy Perry) and jockey Damian Martinez finished a steady third in the colors of owner Dennis Mills Partners for trainer Katie Carlos. The graded stakes-placed gelding was bred by Ryan Phillips.
Barjaxs (Jess Louisiana Blue-Elealicious) finished in fourth place and was followed across the finish line by RF Fast Dash N Blue (Jess Louisiana Blue-Fast Dash N Deb), Fastcopata (Heza Fast Dash-Cocopata),
This Girls A Runaway (Sir Runaway Dash- This Girl Is Special), Achievopiloto (Mr Piloto-Achieve The Splash), Shez Game (Game Patriot-Fit To Celebrate) and Watch My Booty (Country Chicks Man-Tiny Shiney Booty).
Eysa Jess Jumpn’s winning connections include owner Jose Estrada Quarter Horses, trainer Fructuoso Huitron and jockey Pedro Espinosa.
