In the winner’s circle to receive the Co-Hi-Point Champions awards at Will Rogers Downs are Southern Electric breeders/owners
Dan & Kaye Jones, Southern Electric and DTL Chasin Tale trainer Matt Whitekiller, Robin Haggard, and DTL Teel Partnership connections breeders/co-owners Dean & Tonya Lester, and co-owners Karen & Tim Teel.
For the first time since in the history of the Speedhorse Triple Crown Hi-Point Champion award, two horses tied for hon- ors. DTL Chasin Tale and Southern Electric earned the same
amount of points over the course of the three triple crown races. DTL Chasin Tale and Southern Electric scored a total of 28 points each to achieve the Speedhorse Hi-Point Co-Champion titles, in which horses must be paid in full to all three races, must enter the trials of all three races, and must compete in two of the three trials.
The first of the three triple crown races, the $259,400 Speedhorse Graham Paint & Appaloosa Futurity-G1, was
run on June 1 at Remington Park. Ridden by Cody Smith, DTL Chasin Tale was bumped at the start, but held on for a driving finish and won by 1/2-length, while Southern Electric finished third under the command of Eugenio Navarrete Jr.
The $102,800 Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Futurity-G1 – the second leg of the triple crown races - was run on July 27 at Fair Meadows Tulsa. Southern Electric went wire-to-wire under Andrew Samaniego and crossed the wire 1 1/2-lengths in front. DTL Chasin Tale rallied and was second best.
The third and final leg of the triple crown races, the $48,900 Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Championship Futurity-G1, was run Nov. 9 at Will Rogers Downs, the first Speedhorse race run on that track. Again under Andrew Samaniego, Southern Electric broke on top and was never headed to cross the wire 3/4-length in front of DTL Chasin Tale in second.
DTL Chasin Tale (Wagon Tales QH-Shez Showin Off, Royal Quick Flash) was bred by Dean and Tonya Lester and is owned by the DTL Teel Partnership. Southern Electric (CRM Livewire-Ze Southern Girl QH, Southern Cartel) was bred and is owned by Dan and Kaye Jones. Each horse will receive a buckle and a $2,500 bonus from Speedhorse.
Congratulations to both DTL Chasin Tale and Southern Electric and to their connections!
