Evangeline Downs Futurity
JORDAN EAGLE
By Michael Compton
Fastest qualifier, Jordan Eagle delivered as expected in the $311,470 Evangeline Downs Futurity on Dec. 15, scoring his first career stakes
victory in the 400-yard event. Ridden by Jesse Levario,
who has been aboard the 2-year- old son of One Famous Eagle for all 5 of his career starts, Jordan Eagle grabbed the early lead out of the 10-hole. He dueled with Wii B the length
of the lane, stubbornly holding that rival at bay to score wire- to-wire by a head. The odds-on race favorite trained by Josue Ponce, Jordan Eagle covered the distance in :19.455 for a 104 speed index.
With the win, Jordan Eagle now boasts
a record of 5-3(1)-2(1)-0 with earnings of $173,228. After finishing second in his first pair of starts, including a second-place finish in the Dash for Cash Juvenile at Lone Star Park, Jordan Eagle broke his maiden in his third lifetime start in October and followed that outing with a dominating 3 1/2-length route in his trial heat on Nov. 23. Javier
Rosique, a past president of the Mexican Quarter Horse Association, owns the brown colt.
“We bought him
at The Ruidoso Sale.
He was the pick of my nephew Javier Ruiz, and we sent him to Mexico,” said Javier Rosique Jr., who represented his father at the race. “He’s only been in the United States for three months, but has been exceptional. We thank Josue and Jesse. We are very proud of him. We have been racing horses for many years and to have a
horse like Jordan Eagle is a big reward.” In June of this year, Jordan Eagle won
a non-official futurity in Mexico, an event named after Javier Rosique Palavicini as recog- nition for his lifetime achievements with horses.
Bred in Texas by Weetona Stanley, Jordan Eagle is the first stakes winner produced from the unraced PYC Paint Your Wagon mare PYC Prize Doll.
Wii B (Mighty B Valiant-Devil Wears Prada B), ridden by Eddie Sanchez, was game in defeat, also earning a 104 speed index like the winner in finishing second for owner Arturo Ibarra and trainer Jose Sanchez III. A winner in his trial heat, the sorrel colt was bred in Texas by Bielau Oaks.
Canonball Run (American Runaway-Sinuous) and Luis Vivanco couldn’t match strides with the top two but held third for owner Belinda Paredes and trainer Josue Huitron. The gray gelding, bred in Texas by Bobby Cox, captured his trial dash and was seeking his third consecutive win.
Followed by Mia Jet In (Jet Black Patriot-PYC First Prize Mia), Runnin for Corona (Corona Cartel-Runaway Wave), Some Temting Dash (Tempting Dash-Fast Prize Rose), Moment
of Fury (Furyofthewind-Moment of Epiphany), Pritty (Coronado Cartel-SFR Fire N Brimstone), Lottacash And Corona (Lota PYC-Vals Best) and Racy Secret (Hez Our Secret-Miss Racy Jess).
