2014 STALLION REGISTER

Our Cover
PYC Paint Your Wagon graces the cover of the 2014 Stallion Register. He is a stallion most deserving of this honor. In only four crops to race, he has done what few stallions have ever done. PYC Paint Your Wagon recently made history
by setting a new record: as a sire in his first four years at stud, his total progeny earnings surpassed First Down Dash’s record set in 1994. On
Sept. 5, PYC Paint Your Wagon’s total progeny earnings reached $11,368,898 (First Down Dash, the all-time leading sire of money earners, sired $11,352,533 in his first four years at stud).
PYC Paint Your Wagon was bred by Michael A. Pohl of Montgomery, Texas. The royally-bred stallion was foaled in 2003. His sire is Corona Cartel, AQHA’s #1 all-time leading living sire of money earners and the #2 all-time leading sire of money earners, second only to First Down Dash. PYC Paint Your Wagon’s dam is the Strawfly Special mare Dashin Follies, an all-time leading dam of ROM who holds the distinction of being the highest priced broodmare ever to sell at auction when she brought $875,000 at the 2010 Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale.
Trained by Jack Brooks, PYC Paint Your Wagon began his career on the track in the Lazy
E Futurity trials at Remington Park on March 19, 2005. With a late rush to the wire under jockey Jacky Martin, he finished third in his heat. His clocking, however, was good enough to get him to the Grade 2 finals. In his first stakes event, PYC Paint Your Wagon broke sharply on the lead, pulled clear of the field and gave a wire-to-wire performance to win by 3/4-length. He finished
his two-year-old season with an additional victory in the Texas Classic Futurity-G1 and a second in the Rainbow Futurity-G1. He earned $604,621 that year. At three, PYC Paint Your Wagon earned

another $284,960 winning the Texas Classic Derby-G1 and the Heritage Place Derby-G1, and finishing second in The Championship at Sunland Park-G1.
PYC Paint Your Wagon retired completely sound from racing with $889,581 in earnings and more Grade 1 wins than any other son of Corona Cartel.
PYC Paint Your Wagon was an immediate sensation when he hit the breeding shed. In
his first year at stud, he was the #1 leading freshman sire of 2010 with over $1.5 million banked. As a second-year sire, PYC Paint Your Wagon was the #1 leading sophomore sire with over $3.1 million earned. In 2012, he led all other stallions at stud, taking the #1 spot with nearly $4 million in earnings. PYC Paint Your Wagon is still at the top of the charts with nearly $3.5 million banked so far in 2013.
As of this writing, PYC Paint Your Wagon is the sire of more than $12 million in total earners, 262 winners, 335 ROM, and nine track record setters.
There is clearly a trend here. PYC Paint Your Wagon has incredible siring power and mare owners believe in him. His first yearlings went
to auction in 2009, and 68 of them sold at the major auctions for an average of $12,657. The next year, 90 PYC Paint Your Wagons sold for an average of $16,226. The average was up again in 2011 when 50 PYC Paint Your Wagons sold for an average of $17,892, and again in 2012 when 59 of his progeny sold for an average of $19,539. In 2013, his average is up once again with 81 yearlings selling for an average of $25,554.
More great things are expected from PYC Paint Your Wagon, an impressive young stallion.
