This includes three stakes placed runners and one stakes winner. The stakes winner was Mayor Josie by Midway Mayor who won the 1978 Rillito Fall Futurity and the 1978 Lassie Stakes.
Odds Breaker was the other starter on the track and she was unplaced in two starts. She is the dam of two ROM from six foals including the race winner Reckless Ego by Bold Ego.
The non-starter out of Go Josie Go was Josie’s Tiny by Tiny Charger. This mare is the dam of five racing ROM with one stakes finalist in Josies Cash by Dash For Cash. This mare earned a fourth in the 1985 West Texas Derby G2.
Although Go Josie Go has not been able to reproduce herself, she has a good solid family with some stakes horses and ROM’s to represent her side of the family. But not all is lost on this family of horses as some other branches that have been key figures in the scheme of things.
The origin of this family comes about through the mating of Three Bars with Josephine R. This is a most interesting pedigree in that Three Bars was out of Myrtle Dee by Luke McLuke and Josephine R was sired by Raffles by Luke McLuke. This gives us a breed- ing pattern of 3 X 3 in the foals produced from this stallion and mare.
This is the cross that produced Go Josie Go’s mother Josie’s Bar. The Josie’s Bar siblings include Galobar, Bar Raider, Raid Bar and Roma Bar. Galobar heads this list, as she won the first All American Futurity in 1959. The
Go Josie Go and her first foal, the 1968 Double Bid filly Double Darling
brothers Bar Raider and Raid Bar were both ROM runners.
Roma Bar is the most successful branch of this family in the new century. She is the dam of six ROM and two stakes winners. Her stakes winners are Roma Charge, winner of the 1966 Kansas Futurity, and Miss Air Mail, winner of the 1983 TQHA Texas Derby.
Miss Air Mail is the dam of Dancing Tonight, an ROM runner by On A High.
This mare is the dam of two stakes winners in JLS Streak Of Snow and Ms Pilot Point. JLS Streak Of Snow is the multiple stakes winner of such races as the 2005 East Distaff Challenge G3 and the 2005 Miss Polly Classic G3. Miss Pilot Point is the winner of 2006 East Distaff Challenge G3. Ms Pilot Point is now the dam of Mr. Piloto, the 2010 All American Futurity winner, giving this family of horses bookend victories in the most prestigious of Quarter Horse races - the All American Futurity.
Air Mail Express is daughter of Miss Air Mail by Dash For Cash. This mare counts in her branch of the family the stakes winners Special Task Force, winner of the Refrigerator Handicap G1 and the Oklahoma Championship Challenge G1; Captian
Jacksboro, winner of the New Mexico State Fair Senor Futurity RG2 and the Hard Twist Stakes RG3; Fast Movin Vic, winner of the Ruidoso Juvenile Challenge G3; and All Points Bulletin, winner of the Iowa Stallion Derby RG3.
The naming of the 2012 AQHA Racing Champions has a touch of this famous family. Air Mail Express is the dam of Hot Tin Lizzie, who is the dam of Heza Motor Scooter. Heza Motor Scooter is the sire of two AQHA racing Champions in 2012: All About Larry, the 2012 AQHA Racing Champion Distance Horse; and Rylees Boy, the 2011 Champion Aged Gelding, the 2012 Champion Aged Gelding and the 2012 Aged Horse Champion.
We started this update expressing the irony of how a great race mare has a difficult time reproducing herself. Well, this has proven true for Go Josie Go. But it is her greatness as a performer that allows her legacy to continue. Then we see that her relatives are continuing to build on that legacy for this wonderful family of runners allowing us to always remember Go Josie Go and the race that carries her name.
