Lil Shorta Cash was a little long on time in his trial for the Feb. 19 South Florida Derby, when he finished fourth and just failed to qualify. Instead, he
was much the best in the previous day’s consolation race, the South Florida Invitational.
When the gate opened, jockey Cody Smith found room to maneuver Lil Shorta Cash from post position two, as the inside horse, El Cartel Del Oro, hugged the rail and Okey Dokey Diamond to his outside broke slowly. Smith wrapped up on Lil Shorta Cash nearing the wire, and they won by two lengths, stop- ping the clock in :21.695 for the 440 yards.
Jackie Kirby trains Lil Shorta Cash for owner Rodney Layne Harmon. The colt’s previous two victories came at Will Rogers Downs and Hialeah. He finished third in the Dec. 26 Hialeah Laddie Futurity behind winner TF First Pick, the fastest qualifier for the South Florida Derby and second in the final. Bred in Oklahoma by Guy Weimer, Lil Shorta Cash is the first foal and first starter out of winner Shakem Ur Cash.
Eyema Little Ten (Ten Streaks-Eyes A Glitter Bug) finished second under Yordanis Amaro. The gelding, owned by Reynaldo Guzman and trained by Eduardo Morales, broke his maiden at Hialeah on Jan. 6.
El Cartel Del Oro (Count Corona-Comminup Rosie), who ran third, won a 350-yard Florida-bred maiden race Dec. 30 by five lengths. Oscar Delgado rode him in both races for trainer Adrian Soto and owner Luis Aguirre.
Completing the field were Dashin Shiner (First To Shine-Shawne Kate), Mo Zoomo (Shazoom- Stylish Form), Gold N Boy (Gold Medal Jess- Flirtinwiththecartel), Upgraded (Hotdoggin-Let Me Upgrade), Oceans Potion (Ocean Runaway-Streakin Ms Jess), Askin Aint Getting (Streak And Dash-In Contempt), and Okey Dokey Diamond (Okey Dokey Dale-Diamond Of Deception).

if Hialeah Park gave out an Iron Horse Award, the title would surely go to Skyline Lover. The 6-year- old gelding went undefeated through five starts at
the 2011-12 Hialeah Park Quarter Horse meeting, most recently winning the $27,000 Sailfish Stakes on Feb. 19.
Sent postward as the 1-5 favorite in the Sailfish, Skyline Lover lived up to his favored status with a dominating performance in the 1,000-yard race. Ridden by Shanley Jackson, Skyline Lover was in front at the first call and was never headed from there, racing to a four-length victory over a short five-horse field. Show wagering was canceled.
Trained by Matt Frazier, Skyline Lover covered the 1,000 yards in :52.593. He has now won 15 of 33 starts, with $290,853 in earnings including the $16,740 from the Sailfish. Dan Frazier owns the Feature Mr Jess son, who is out of the Royal Quick Dash mare Loves That Gold. James Burgess bred Skyline Lover in Texas.
Finishing second in the Sailfish was Checotah Dale (Eye For Dale-Checotah Kitty-TB). Jim Riley bred and owns the 5-year-old gelding, who was trained by Henry Smith and ridden by Francisco Ramirez, Jr. Checotah Dale faced Skyline Lover in each of his previous two outs, finishing fourth each time. He earned $5,400 for this runner-up finish and has now finished first or second in nine of 21 outs.
Double Eagle Ranch’s Jess Snouping Around (Jess Louisiana Blue-Tobrendawithlove) finished third. Richard Sedillo trains the 4-year-old geld- ing who was ridden by Gary Boag. Jess Snouping Around finished third in a $5,000 claiming race in his most recent start prior to the Sailfish.
Absolve (Check Him Out-Beat Your Pants Off) and The Star Alert (Beat The Feet-TB-Lil Gamble Star) completed the field. Isom Dart and Templar Knight were scratched.

Running in South Florida definitely agrees with Logans Dash. The 3-year-old filly picked up her third win of the Hialeak Park meet with a close victory
in the $22,750 Three Cherries Stakes on Feb. 19, the closing day of the Hialeah season. All three of Logans Dash’s victories at Hialeah have come in stakes races.
It took a huge move on the far outside for Logans Dash to add to that win total. Hesa Winner and Count The Menace quickly established themselves as the front-runners on the inside of the track. Then Logans Dash came on, seemingly out of nowhere, and reached the wire first by a neck over Count The Menace.
Logans Dash brought home a $13,650 payday for owner Anibal Hernandez, improving the filly’s bankroll to $74,724. Logans Dash has already earned $41,025 in four outs this season, topping the $33,699 she collected in eight starts in 2011.
Manuel Mata trains Logans Dash, who had Jeremy Garcia aboard. Triple M Farms LLC bred Logans Dash and owns her dam, Logans Game, who won the 2006 Louisiana Breeders’ Lassie Futurity-RG2. Logans Dash is her first starter.
Starlet and Charlton Hunt own runner-up Count The Menace (Executive Menace-Countess Rare Bar), who is trained by Hunt and had Brian Theriot in the irons. Hunt went winless on closing day at Hialeah but was named the top trainer of the meet with 25 wins. Hesa Winner (Stoli-Apollos Winner) was
third for Yesika Rodriguez. The gelding is trained by Orlando Orozco and was ridden by Oscar Hernandez.
The remaining order of finish was Runnin Azoom (Azoom-First Down Runner), This Task
Is Easy (Fly Jess Fly-Majorly Cranky), Rapid Ivory (Ivory James-Rapid Fire Cash), Bogie Man (Country Chicks Man-Calabogie), Shes Jess Dynamite (FDD Dynasty-Shes Jess Special), Razmajazz (Country Chicks Man-Elusive Martini) and Ivory Rain (Ivory James-Drifting Shawne Bug).
